Two generations of guitarists merge on this cleverly-titled album, with former Dire Straits virtuoso Mark Knopfler taking time off from scoring movies to join Chet Atkins, one of the fathers of electric guitar pickin'. And there's some mighty fine country pickin' on display here, with the duo joined by some of Nashville's all-time finest players, including the late, great Floyd Cramer, Mark O'Connor, Larry Londin, Vince Gill, and Steve Wariner. The material ranges from choice country covers (Doc Watson's "Poor Boy Blues," Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams") to rock 'n' roll ("Yakety Ax," a take on Boots Randolph's "Yakety Sax"), jazz (Django Reinhardt's "Tears"), a Knopfler original, and even the old standard "I'll See You in My Dreams." It sounds like they had fun, too! --Bill Holdship

Two Masters.......2007-01-16
Listen to two masters weave their magic in this CD. I particularly enjoyed their banter as they play the 5+ minute "There'll Be Some Changes Made".
One of my favorites CD.......2006-11-03
This is a wonderful blend of rock and country. It's nice to celebrate the life od Chet specially with Mark.
Enjoy.
Review???.......2006-07-22
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this CD. Haven't had a great deal to do with the mucic of Chet Atkins before, but certainly knew of him.
The music is easy to listen to and sing along with once you know the words - if you listen to it often enough, and I seem to be doing just that.
Am glad I made the purchase.

Two Pros.......2006-07-04
I love this collection of two great guitar guys!! All songs are grand.
I want my Chet/Mark TEEVEE!.......2006-03-03
Too often great guitar players have little (or nothing) to say. This can cause uneven lyrics in their work. That is certainly not the case here. Buy this not for the great guitar playing and mutual talent and admiration, buy it for the lyrics. The guitar playing is your bonus for your excellent taste. Most of this is (much) lighter than other Mark Knopfler offerings the rich descriptions are still here with a well ensconced tongue-in-cheek. I was just as happy to pay for it as they both (obviously) were to create it. I want my Chet/Mark TEEVEE!

They have indeed met.............2007-05-31
On the Wrinkle Neck Mules latest, they bring back more of the elements that drew my attention on 'Minor Enough': country, bluegrass, folk, and soak it all down with some whiskey fueled rock `n roll. The instrumentation is taken back a notch on this one towards bluegrass with more banjos, mandolins, and pedal steels. But there are still the rockers, like 'The Wicks Have Met' and 'Ursa Major'.
All in all; they bring the gritty, sloppy, back porch sound that first got me hooked on this band. If you liked 'Minor Enough' and 'Pull the Brake', this one is a must-have for your collection.
Turn it on......turn it up.......and rip off the volume knob!

Timeless Classic.......2007-05-13
This album is a timeless classic. Ron's last solo album before officially joining the Stones. Keith and the boys did a lot of back up vocals and instramentals on this one. The artwork on the album cover is also very interesting - all of it painted by Mr. Wood himself.
Good Ol' Ronnie Wood.......2006-11-14
Very solid release from everybody's favorite guitar sidekick. Good songs, great guitar licks and Ronnie's everyman vocals. I bought this on CD a few years ago and the production is god-awful. It is long overdue to be remastered. Maybe it's the transfer to CD and maybe it's the mix. I don't know enough about it to explain it properly, but the sound quality is one of the worst I've ever heard. And this album deserves much better than that, because it is very good. While I still feel "I've Got My Own Album To Do" is his best effort (and one of my all time favorite albums)this is still worth owning for the converted. Three stars, should be four, but knocked down one for the production/sound quality/mix.
It Still Makes Me Smile.......2005-06-12
This was the first Wood album (CD) that I bought during the summer of 1979 and it still makes me smile. Wood`s ensemble was to later become the New Barbarians, and I recall seeing them during Keith`s benefit concert for the blind in Oshawa, Canada.
The guitar work is first class, the selection of songs outstanding, having Mick, Keith and Charlie on some of the tracks gave it a Stonesy feel without being the Stones, and the lyrics are first rate "guy" lyrics that you will not likely find with today`s loser boy bands, who cannot play their instruments, and which seem to be "manufactured" by Hollywood.
Buy it and have some fun.
Woody's Best CD.......2002-12-01
I bought this when it first came out on vinyl and it remains my favorite Ron Wood CD. There is just a groove, a feel to the whole album very upbeat, a party like atmosphere and it reflects in all of the songs. Woody's never been a great vocalist, but these songs suit his abilities just fine. "Worry no more" opens the CD, a boozy bar anthem with a loud chorus and "We all get old" also is a standout cut. What Woody lacks in range, he makes up for with passion. Overall, it's just an upbeat album that is allot of fun to listen to, you can tell everyone had a great time recording it. As usual, the guitar playing is top notch, with great rythms and slide guitar. A must for any Ron Wood fan.
Every Good Boy Deserves A Woody........2002-02-02
Argualby Wood's best solo album; featuring fellow Stones members Charlie Watts, Keith & Mick on several tracks. Rocks along like a Faces-Stones combination from begining to end. If Ron had any input to a Stone's album, this is most likely what it would sound like. Don't pass this up.

Album Description
The Wrinkle Neck Mules debut, Minor Enough, sows the roots of rock, bluegrass and country into a bumper crop of Americana. The Richmond, Virginia quartet (plus or minus one or two) strike alternately with desperate rockers and fast picking grassers and then ice the wounds with humid back porch twang. The lyrical themes are as distinct --touching on unbroken horses, lost love, sterno abuse, whiskey factory explosions and other general nonsense. Throughout, a common thread of strong harmonies, clever lyrics and rock-solid instrumentation holds Minor Enough together. Get behind the mules and plow.

something i missed........2007-01-16
here's a pleasant surprise that i missed when it was 1st out. a fantastic alt-country album, filled with great hooks and all the other trappings that make this genre so enjoyable. highly recommended by me, for whatever that's worth?
best alt country band going.......2006-06-03
wow. gotta love those bands who have two distinct songwriters (farrar/tweedy, lennon/mccartney, etc). all very smart, chase writes in a classic country style (failure of liver, pale colored hue are exceptional) while andy gets the banjos and mandolins rolling with his down home blue grass stylings ("he had a hair cut like martin van buren" is the memorable opening line to the vic chesnutt-like whiskey jars, head of steam is a sad song about a mining disaster). mason brent fills it all in with tasteful guitars. smart lyrics, fantastic instrumentalists. as good as the second cd, pull the brake (very highly recommended as well), is i keep coming back to this gem. spread the mule.
Better things to come..........2006-03-29
Amazon has not yet made "Pull The Brake" available (what's up with that?), WNM's new release (March 2006). These guys have stepped up and absolutely nailed their follow-up to Minor Enough. No one hit wonders here, these guys excel. Now if I can just get them to tour out West.....
Hell, yeah!.......2005-08-27
These guy's are one hell of a Hillbilly/Alt-country outfit. Gritty, talented, and honest music that you'd swear came from the hills, but this isn't an "ol' timey" band; they kick ass too with a roots rock element. The Mules like to sing of makin' booze, & drinking it; plenty of it. There's only a handful of great character bands left out there in the "no depression" genre, & this is certainly one of 'em.
Los Mules Rock.......2004-09-01
This is my first review this year and I would like to state now that these guys have set a really high standard for the rest to follow! There are thirteen tracks on the album and not a dud amongst them. The whole thing kicks of with No Consolation a cracking country rock number. What follows then is a mixture of bluegrass, alt.country and a kind of country garage style!
This is a five piece band hailing from between Richmond and Charlottesville Virginia. All the songs are written by either Chase Heard or Andy Stepanian who are the two main vocalists.
Right , back to the album. Quite a few of the tracks are drink related Failure Of Liver and 17 Seventeen Miles Of Bourbon to name but two.But the pick of the bunch for me are the three closing tracks Wandering Valley Prelude which segues seamlessly into the fantastically dark and wondrous Head Of Steam. The whole thing comes to a close with Gold Dust Twin with a moody synthesised intro ,quirky effects sitting happily along side hard driven electric guitars ,brilliant!
The Mules are as comfortable playing bluegrass as they are full blown alt. Country rock. To compare the Mules with others is difficult because they have a unique style of their own but I could hear traces Dillards, Jayhawks, Willard Grant and even a touch of Poco in this record.I have listened to a lot of alt. Country over the last year and I would be hard pushed to find a better album than this.I think the Mules are touring here in the summer and personally I can't wait. In the meantime I'll just have to wear out the album.
THESE MULES KICK ASS!!!
Yours in all that is good about music

Album Description
On their second album, Pull the Brake, the Wrinkle Neck Mules continue to push the boundaries of American roots-rock with 15 well-crafted tunes about whiskey, murder and the decisions we make after the party ends. The Mules juggle rock `n' roll and acoustic music in a fashion similar to bands like Uncle Tupelo and Neil Young and Crazy Horse. And they do it with an undercurrent of humor even when themes turn darker.
Pull the Brake finds the band reunited with producer Chris Kress (Ben Kweller, Dave Matthews). Andy Stepanian (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Chase Heard(vocals, guitar, banjo) share songwriting duties on the album. Stepanian is drawn toward darker themes, while Heard has more of a pop sensibility. It is the tension between these two voices that accounts for the band's rich and varied musical texture. Mason Brent(vocals, guitar, mandolin, pedal steel) once again shines with his scorching guitar solos and tasty flourishes on the mandolin. And Blake Gayle (drums)provides a stripped-down style of playing adding a ragged feel to the music. Cult-hero Bonnie "Prince" Billy also shows up to lend supporting vocals on the hauntingly beautiful "Lowlight."
While their first album, Minor Enough, had all the comforts of home, Pull the Brake treads darker ground. Many of the characters in these songs are all too familiar with the temptations that the night offers. But there are still some good-time rockers that offer redemption. The closing track, "Put Your Guitars Where Your Mouth Is," perfectly captures the spirit of the band's live shows. During the chorus, Heard sings, "Maybe you can have tomorrow, because I've got yesterday." With those words, we know we are listening to a band that is proudly steeped in tradition but still plowing new ground.
Customer Reviews:
great follow-up to their 1st cd........2007-01-16
here's a great band that i just discovered. I bought their 1st cd, loved it, and right away bought this, their follow-up, which is even better. if you are an alt-country head, you can't go wrong with this. i very much look forward to more from this outfit.
Viva Los Mules!.......2006-07-13
There've been 3 bands that have blown me away in the last 5 years: Freeloader, Drive By Truckers, and The Mules. I heard "Liza" on a Paste compilation CD a few months ago, loved it, and figured it all couldn't be that good. Well, damned if Pull The Brake isn't chock full of some of the best tunes you've heard in a very long time. Alt-country, Americana, bluegrass, country, rock....however you want to try and describe it. See these guys live and you're in for a treat. Their debut, Minor Enough, while slightly less accessible, is fabulous as well.
Pick up a copy of Pull the Brake - you'll be glad you did.
Improvement all around.......2006-07-07
I fell in love with this band when I heard their debut CD, Minor Enough. It was like a greatest hits album of all new material. Their blend of rock, bluegrass and Americana, although derivative, sounded fresh and the songs were outstanding, although the band could have used more kick on the rock-oriented songs.
Now we have Pull The Brake and I am happy to report that there is improvement just about everywhere, especially in the production/sound quality. Pull The Brake shows the band serious about creating Americana-type music. The exaggerated southern drawl of singer Andy Stepanian is reigned in a little, although he remains hard to understand. The musicianship is still excellent. Highlights include Liza, the title song, Okeechobee, Lowlight, Strangers/Sojourners and When Things Unravel.
I have a few complaints...too many medium tempo songs that rely on start-stop rhythms. Also, the drum playing on about half the songs tends to drag things down. I'd like more inventive-ness as opposed to just rudimentary time-keeping. They could have dropped a couple of songs as well. And Put Your Guitars Where Your Mouth Is is a really dumb name for a song.
I had my doubts that WNM could follow up Minor Enough with something good. But I was wrong!
New "Alt" champions.......2006-06-15
The Mules may very well be the best Roots rockin', alt-country band out there today. They craft a smart mixture of acoustic, sometimes hillbilly sounding music and punishing roots rock. Their songwriting is also superior to the majority of today's acts. The themes of their songs are dark, and hilarious, & you'll be hard-pressed to find a group with this combination of talent, humour, and character. It's all here.

i just saw overkill again monday nite 1st time since i saw them at this show man they still put on one hell of a show they are still today one of the best remaining metal bands out there distrebed, korn, linken park all should take note this cd is the way overkill sounds live raw and fast great if you,ve never seen then you must i,ve been a fane since 83 seen them 17 times one of the best live bands to see out there now yes i,m from cleveland overkills second home they love us can,t wait till they come back here this cd kicks ass and brings a lot of good memories with it for me as bobby says if not for us there would be no overkill were a diying bread metalheads this band keeps it alive they truely love there fans this cd is a must for every overkill collection new and old fans alike
I was there.......2003-07-06
As great as this concert is on CD, it was even better being there. I went with 4 friends and spent most of the time in the mosh pit. It was my first real introduction to this band. Up until this point I only knew "Powersurge". Afterward I became I fan for life, and they have only gotten better.(A rarity in the world of metal). This CD has a special place in my collection.
Best Of Live Overkill!!!!.......2003-06-16
If your an Overkill fan, and like there Studio stuff, you'll love their live material, they play all there songs faster then the studio recordings, and there all very nice.
Well to put it bluntly, this is probably the best Overkill Live CD too date, i mean there other ones are good too, but this has the most tracks, and good one's at that. Pretty much the whole CD is good.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this CD, if your a long time, or new Overkill fan, and haven't ventured into there Live material, your missing out on some very good stuff. So Buy this CD, you won't regret it.
Thrash Kings.......2002-05-14
Overkill are for me the best of trash metal bands, their fury, power and energy are great, im going to buy this cd and i`m waiting for the next one alive, im sure thats gonnabe another great shoot, this album is going to be a classic, like the next one,ok
Well.............2000-08-29
It is not that often that i agree with a person who has reviewed a CD. But, I have to say. I completely agree with these 2 that I read. Over Kill is the most intense band ever. I was lucky enough to see them live. And I must say, I was never more swept away by music. I have seen concert footage from the day when Over Kill played to 15,000 people. And been in the crowd for only 1,500. And Bobby "Blitz" is the exact same in both cases. Never stops, never quits. He screems like there are 200,000 people begging for him to make them hear it! And when most band's like Metalligreed would have cancelled. He went in and killed the crowd with ear crushing screams, and thunderous growls. The only negative thing i could ever say about them is this... " please for the love of god, get rid of Joe Comeau" He is really holding them back. I am going to purchase this CD again. For the simple fact that I wore my first one out!

Album Description
One of the most enigmatic, mysterious, and defiantly anti-commercial groups to emerge from the NY loft scene during the '90s, the No-Neck Blues Band sometimes operated more as an artists' collective or commune than a band. Membership is in a state of near-constant flux, and most prefer to remain anonymous. Incorporating elements of folk, drone, psychedelia, free jazz, noise, and just about everything else, NNCK (as the group is often abbreviated) has nevertheless carved out a distinctive sound despite the seemingly random components. They also have made a name for themselves through live performances, eschewing nightclubs and bars for free performances on wharves, riverside docks, public parks, rooftops, or at their live-in performance space, The Hint House, in the Bronx. This is their first label release in many years and represents their most polished work to date. "NNCK are the best band ever in the universe" - Thurston Moore.

Melodic Trance Treat.......2000-05-29
I've owned this CD for two years now, it was originally released in 1997. There's so many layers and micro detail to this music that it still remains fresh and is a joy to listen to as well as being very dancy.
gourmet food for your ears.......2000-05-07
WoW! What a treat. I'm still hearing new sounds after listening to this masterpiece for over 3 months and I haven't even used headphones yet! I hope there will be more aural ambionic appetizers from Kai Liekenbrocker in the future.
