Decent Album For The Money.......2007-05-13
Pretty good except for the fact they left off "Walking on a thin line". Record companys do this on purpose so fans dont just buy the greatest hits and ignore the rest of the catalog.
huey lewis.......2007-01-16
excellent cd of all the hits by huey lewis and the news. really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
The greatest hits are great........2006-07-12
I love every song on this cd. I never really knew anything about this band but one day I saw this and said "why not?" I like all the songs on here some I knew and some I had never heard but they are all great. I allways listen to this cd now because it's great music. Not just a few songs but the whole cd.
Such a good Album.......2006-05-23
We'll do a track by track review here...
1. Heart of Rock and Roll- Everyone knows this track, and it's a big one. This song has been called bad by some, even some called it a "history lesson" for naming all these names in cities, but it's a great opener.
2. Heart and Soul- The guitar line for this song drives it. It's an amazing tune, and the chorus is catchy as hell. Another great one.
3. Doing it All for My Baby- Huey shines as a writer here. It's a very good love song, and a nice solo is thrown in here as well. A very recognizeable track.
4. Do You Believe in Love- Another awesmome guitar line here. A slower paced song, and was redone to sound slower and more jazz type. I like the new version better.
5. Trouble in Paradise- I haven't really listened to this song much, so I cant give a good estimate on it.
6. The Power of Love- The pretty much definitive Huey song. From the Back to the Future soundtrack. Another great guitar part here, and the song starts from the get go, and doesnt ever let up.
7. If This is It- These guitar lines are becoming something of a pattern here. An awesome intro, and a great song. You can tell what he was going through when he wrote it. An awesome song.
8. Bad is Bad- A good song. A slow, underground type feel. Huey is going back to his home, and sees a strange pai of shoes under the bed. Nice.
9. Working For a Livin'- A fast paced song about Huey's working days. Short, clocks in a little over 2 minutes.
10. It's Alright- When the News do a cappella, they shine. This is a great song, an d all parts blend together so well, and they compliment each other.
11. Stuck With You- Kind of an ironic title. It's about two people who fight and have problems, but know they should be together no matter what they do.
12. I want a New Drug- Awesome guitar part. Awesome song. Cool video. All around good in this.
Missing A Couple of Hits But Still Great.......2006-03-01
I've been a fan of Huey Lewis for a long time. Like a lot of people, I discovered the band from the Back to the Future films. If you don't own all of the albums yet, this is the best place to start. It has all the hits you need from the band, well almost. With great songs like "Stuck with You" and "Power of Love", you can't help but wonder why they didn't include other hits like "Back in Time" or "Hip To Be Square". But for this price, it is a bargain, it's worth a lot more. This band is one of the greatest of all time and you do yourself a favor if you get this record! It's great.

Better than I thought.......2006-10-28
I am not a country music listener, but Stand Still did it for me.
Great Album!.......2004-08-03
"What Else is There" Billy Ray Cyrus asks in the first track of Time Flies, and while he is talking about love, I'm talking about pure country music.
Time Flies has only one problem, it's hard to pick a stand out track on an album that is great overall. From the beautiful opening track "What Else Is There" to the inspiring acoustic re-take of "Some Gave All" Cyrus delivers 15 tracks of pure country music with just a touch of Southern Rock.
Billy Ray Gets Better and Better.......2003-09-23
If you are a Billy Ray Cyrus fan this is a must have every song on the album is great. I first heard alot of his songs from Time Flies in concert summer 2002. Also look for Billy's new album coming in October called The Other Side. i am a huge billy Fan since Some Gave All and have all of his albums which are great. Time Flies is just another example how great Billy is. Also you can catch billy's new videos on GAC.
Wow!.......2003-09-18
I was so happy to see that this CD had the theme for BRC's new show "Doc", called "Stand Still" on it. I've been watching the show since the beginning, and now I'm hooked. I watch it every Sunday night. This CD is so great! I also love the first track "What Else is There"
TIME FLIES deserves to be heard! BRC outdid himself again!.......2003-07-10
Contrary to popular belief, Billy Ray Cyrus never "left" radio for television. Radio turned it's back on BRC long ago and all he has done is continue to turn out great record after great record, electrify audiences across the country with his energetic stage show, and spend a good amount of time acting.
If it wasn't for the acting, however, I'm not sure this album would've ever made it out. I'm sure happy it did though. Time Flies may be the best country album this year. Some favorites of mine are "Stand Still" (Theme of DOC), "I Still Believe", and the touching new single "Back To Memphis." It's a song that reminds us that although ABC and NBC aren't still sending all of their anchors to Iraq, the war is still going on and people are still dying. An added bonus is the acoustic version of what may be Billy's best penned song ever, "Some Gave All." Also included is a rocking September 11th tribute "Close to Gone."
Most albums that an artist puts out have only three or four songs that the buyer will enjoy and the rest are skipped. Not this album...All 15 tracks are great songs. I would recommend this album to a fan of music, regardless of genre because BRC is so diverse, he covers the entire spectrum on this album. Billy Ray Cyrus deserves to be heard and respected. Because everyone has their own opinions on music, there is no such thing as a guarantee. But, I GUARANTEE that Time Flies is the closest thing to being guaranteed a great listening experience as you can get. This CD should solidify all of his current fans and grab a few more new ones as well.

Ramsey with love.......2006-11-10
Wouldn't you know it, only Ramsey Lewis can give his love to everyone at once.
Top of His Craft.......2005-08-04
Ramsey Lewis' Time Flies simply shows that Ramsey is still at the top of his game. The fresh version of The In Crowd is scintillating and the rendition of Hosanna is R& B gospel at its best. The eclectic mixture of classical( Poco Allegretto from Brahms third symphony ), jazz, a dash of rock and a little blues all work for one of the best collections that I have heard in years. There isn't a second rate piece on the CD; and, nothing in this collection would ever be considered a "filler". This CD jams.
Wonderful arrangements and musicianship.......2004-12-28
The sound on this CD is beautiful, and the performances are excellent, with something for everybody. The additional musicians enhance the sound without overpowering the music. However, every recording has its bad moments, and I would have given this recording five stars save for the annoyingly pretentious acapella solo vocal kickoff to "Wade in the Water". This few seconds is justification enough to knock off a star or two. The classical numbers are tastefully done, and the new version of "In Crowd" moves along nicely. Worth buying, but program your player to skip "Wade in the Water."
A nice change of pace.......2004-08-02
In the interest of full disclosure let me begin by stating that I have absolutely no qualifications to review a jazz album. I do not seem to have an ear for jazz, I don't understand it and for the most part I don't enjoy it. I hate improvisation. Having said all that I found that I really did enjoy the music of Ramsey Lewis during his heydey in the 1960's. I bought many of his great Chess singles and still play his Greatest Hits collection from time to time. So when I noticed that he had released a brand new CD in June 2004 I thought it might be fun to give it a listen.
There are 11 tracks on this CD offering a wide variety of musical styles. Two classical pieces are included here as well as several of Ramsey's own compositions. While I enjoyed the classical pieces they were not my favorite tracks by a long shot. It is not surprising that the two Lewis compositions I enjoyed most were "Open My Heart" and "Hosanna". These tracks have a definite R&B/gospel influence and were backed by stunning vocals from the Chicago Gospel Voices. An A+ on both of these tracks! What really prompted me to purchase this disc however, was the chance to hear brand new arrangements of two of the Ramsey Lewis Trio's biggest hits. While I enjoyed "Wade In The Water" I think I prefer the original version. However, I did find the new version of "The In Crowd" to be superb. Obviously it is different but it is every bit as good as the original. Overall I would say that this disc was not quite what I expected. It is quite a bit more mellow than I thought it would be. I anticipated more uptempo stuff. Nevertheless I enjoyed hearing the music of Ramsey Lewis once again nearly forty years after he came onto the scene.
Mostly brilliant . . ........2004-07-17
. . . but dragged down by a few gratuitous moves. The big question for me is why couldn't've Ramsey Lewis resisted the urge to bring in some crowd-pleasing elements and just stuck with the glorious piano trio sound he conjures for most of this disc? After all, fellow fusionista Bob James stayed the course on his latest, as did Harvey Mason, and the results were pretty great. Alas, Mr. Lewis just couldn't seem to untether himself from the safety net of sweetening.
It must be admitted that sometimes the inclusion of additional musicians lifts the proceedings onto a higher plane, esp. when they are subtly deployed as on "Wade in the Water," featuring some very tasty guitar (by Buddy Fambro) and B3 organ (courtesy of Kevin Randolph) as well as the soulful vocals of Ronald McCowan. But on the two gospelized numbers, "Open My Heart" and "Hosannah," the aural signature ventures so far from the established vibe as to be distracting, the main offenders being The Chicago Gospel Voices, who, in other circumstances, I'm sure, are perfectly wonderful. It doesn't help that Lewis himself succumbs to the cheese by engaging in some rather gratuitous pianistic grandstanding on these numbers.
Still and all, there are so many great moments on this disc that I'm of a mind to forgive Ramsey Lewis his excesses, and not even subtract a half star.
Really, there's no reason to grouse. The moments of sheerly glorious beauty (esp. the two classical numbers) far outshine the deficiencies.
With quite a wide variety of material, mostly thoughtfully--even ingeniously rendered--everything from Bach to Brahms to spirituals to pop to folk--this disc is easily recommended.

When Rich Prezioso {cq} and Jacquie {cq} Manning named their folk duo Small Potatoes, the Illinois singer-guitarists no doubt meant to be ironic. Nonetheless, the name proves an all too accurate description of the pair's debut CD, "Time Flies," which presents their modest voices and competent picking on moderately amusing tunes that reflect a mildly adventurous eclecticism. Small potatoes indeed. There's plenty of singer-songwriter folk, ranging from Prezioso's pedestrian observations on aging and mortality (the title tune and "I Will Pass This Way Again"), to superb songs by Ewan MacColl and Michael Smith. Prezioso and Manning turn in respectable efforts on all these genres, but excel at none of them. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Who the hell is Geoffrey Himes ?.......2003-09-07
Small Potatoes is one of the most exciting acts I have ever seen. Rich's guitar work (including bottle neck slide style) is incredible. Jacquie's vocals are wonderful and their writing creative and extemely entertaining. The "Waltz of the Wallfowers" CD reflects all of this. If they do such a poor job with Michael Smith's songs, then why does he consistantly share the stage with them and praise them? Find a different line of work Geoffrey!
Hearing is Believing.......2001-12-27
The following is an excerpt from a review I wrote after seeing Small Potatoes in concert for a folk/acoustic music society for which I am a co-founder I, too, don't understand the Himes review because I find what Rich and Jacquie are able to do is exactly what he accuses them of not being able to do. They are superb songwriters and excellent musicians and...they also generate an incredible musical energy onstage. Anyways...
"Hearing is Believing" is a pretty good name for this column (even if I do say so myself), but you also had to see this concert to believe it! Over 200 people packed the Arts Center for this show. It was amazingly gratifying for the FAMA Board!
Facing FAMA's first sold-out crowd, Small Potatoes didn't disappoint a soul. Opening with an instrumental that led into "Talk A Little Texan to Me" featured Rich on the first of many jaw-dropping solos of the night. He makes it look so easy, but we all know the truth. Jacquie's rich voice and rhythm guitar compliments Rich's hot guitar playing perfectly.
Rich and Jacquie's show featured most of the songs off their Time Flies CD and reflected their diverse tastes. They played swing. They played some traditional folk (including an exquisite version of "Shenandoah"). They played a Celtic medley. And all featured tight harmonies and incredible soloing......
The large crowd really enjoyed themselves singing along on "Turn Your Radio On" and Rich's "I Will Pass This Way Again" and by giving rousing ovations to many of the songs throughout the night.
The show ended after an extended standing ovation and encore. Wow! What a night!
Simply the best.......2001-03-22
As a co-director of the Lake County (IL) Folk Festival, I listen to ALOT of folk music, and this duo is my hands-down favorite. I don't want to repeat what has been so well said by previous reviewers... so suffice it to say that if I were stranded on a desert island and could only take one CD it would be this one. (Then I'd have to find a way to sneak "Waltz of the Wallflowers" in too.) Buy these CDs -- you will not be disappointed.
Mister Himes needs to find a new occupation!.......2001-02-17
I agree with the previous reviewer. Himes either doesn't know anything about music (which he is apparently paid to write about) or he woke up on the really wrong side of the bed the day that he wrote that review.
I don't know what prompted that mean-spirited review. I know a bunch of people that are performers and/or students of folk and acoustic music and they are all blown away by Small Potatoes. The versatility and talent in their songwriting and singing along with Jaquie's incredible voice and Rich's wizardry on the guitar make them a delight to hear. Their personalities also make them a delight to meet. I have done so twice and I will have the good fortune to see and meet them a third time when they perform in Madison, Wisconsin about a month from now.
A Real Music Lovers Review.......2000-03-27
After reading the putdown review of the Amazon reviewer I felt it necessary to respond. I absolutely love the album and the group Small Potatoes. Unique, refreshing and a huge croud favorite at the music festivals. They stretch the envelope in the variety and depth of music that they perform. Their songwriting and stylings differentiate them from the pablum that Geoffrey seemingly craves. It is instantly apparent from listening to their album and reading his reviews that they are not only better at what they do, but are less impressed with themselves. The new CD, Waltz of the Wallflowers has some real gems also. Highly recommend both. Listen and decide for yourselves.

Wonderful music and great lyrics!.......2000-12-07
Fantastic CD! It is a premier example of Wayne Watson's wonderful talent not only as a singer, but also as a song writer. The lyrics are great and Wayne's story telling voice makes them easy to follow. As Wayne Watson reflects upon the CD, he states, "God has been faithful to use a few simple thoughts and songs to comfort, convict, and encourage people."
The Best of All Time.......2000-03-12
This may very well be the best Contemporary Christian CD there is. On it is Wayne's music of the 80's, plus another song released with this album. You can't go wrong with any of Wayne's stuff, but in my view, no one can call him or herself a true collector of Christian music without this CD.

A classic!.......2007-03-05
Of all the anarco punk bands from the UK Subhumans stood out and one of the main reasons was the quality of the music (unlike Crass for example who seemed to stand out for their lack of it!) This album is no exception.
Its realy great to have a political message that you can actually listen to without it becoming nothing more than a rant. Dead Kennedys had that one worked out MDC did not. Subhumans were another band who had worked it out.
Mid paced 80s punk with even the odd speedy hardcore track (I dont wanna die) to satisfy the hardcore listener. Lyrics are exellent covering not only political issues but social and personal issues, in another words, lyrics that effect the average person in the street.
Definatly worth buying and listening to...agan...and again....and again...
When the people of the country have forgotten how to disagree..........
(By the way, if you like this you may want to check out ska-punk band Citizen Fish)
Great.......2005-12-28
If your a fan of bands like The Dead Kennedys, Then your gonna like this band.
Great politcal punk, Not like losers like Anti-Flag or NOFX. This is true punk.
P.s: I kinda like NOFX
Greatest of the Greats.......2005-05-03
I don't care who you are, but if you like music with an incredible message that satirizes society and really makes you think; then you want to buy this cd and drink up Dick's every word. The Subhumans are an amazing band that really puches you in the gut with every word and chord. Plus, it is great to freak out your Jappy cousin or your over zealous parents. You might also want to pick up The Day the Country Died also, but Time Flies/Rats is my favourite cd 'cos it is a bit heavier. Cheers mates!!
Great cd. Totally worth your money........2005-01-09
AS i said about 'the day the country died', this music has a deep characteristic to it. It has a great deal of political satire and greatly crafted lyrics. songs like "work-rest-play-die" are so deep and meaningful, unlike (and don't get me wrong, i love other punk too) a lot of other punk stuff: "You can go blue in the face talking about the human race
How they got to outer space but it never stopped the wars
And how the whole of this humanity is based on greed and vanity The ones who make decisions are the ones who make the laws" just one example of the exelent craftmanship of their lyrics. BUY THIS CD.
good good.......2002-12-21
okay. this is another great cd from an amazing band. if your a subhumans fan you would know this. if your one of those people that listen to music for the way it sounds instead of the message, don't waste your time buying this. the sound is great, but you have to be able to respond to their message. basically, if your an intelligent, open minded person who likes bands like crass and dirt, buy this. it's great.

this is by far one of the best cd's. they are very popular in the EU but never made it big here. if you love Basia you will love this cd
Thee Blues-rock Album!.......2000-10-11
The voice and style is outstanding! I think no other Vaya Con Dios album is as good as this one, though the best is yet to come - all our fans would say that. Dani Klein and her band do know what it takes. This album is a must!
Most amazing Vocals.......1999-04-30
I have never heard a more powerfull voice before with great lyrics. I would really like to get more albums by Vaya Con Dios,,An excellent album by far.
Eclectic, magical tunes that will satisfy the soul........1998-12-12
A Belgian band with a Spanish name that plays eclectic songs with powerful lyrics. That is what you get and the result is pure magic. This album picks you up and takes you for an emotional ride with beautiful arrangements that run the gamut from mournful to vengeful. Nothing ordinary here, each cut combines great acoustical harmony with the sultry voice of Dani Klein putting her personal stamp on each tune. Listen to Farewell Song and then decide if you don't want to leave someone! Vaya Con Dios is a refreshing listen for those who want their music mellow but emphatic, creative but understandable and melodies which are tight, crisp and meaningful. This title has SOUL!
WOW!!!.......1998-09-10
I simply ADORE this album - and I will be hooked on Vaya for life. I can't stop playing it. It's like i need my "Fix" at least twice a day. This CD is pure MAGIC. The beautiful lyrics, combined with the riviting music and powerful voice of Vaya transports one to another realm. It's like reaching Nirvana, and you never want it to end. My own personal favourite is "Time Flies" ... I can't get this song out of my head... and i don't particularly want to. It's meaningful to me, personally, and i can relate to the words, "Ain't no money, ain't nobody, That can buy you peace of mind"...... The song "Forever Blue" is also fabulous, and meaningful, to anyone who has loved and lost. Vaya is a true Artiste.... I don't think any other female vocalist can match her powerful, emotional voice. No one should be without this CD. GET IT NOW!!!!
