Album Description

Composed of sessions recorded in New York for Doug Sahm and Band and newer sessions recorded in Northern California by Wally Heider, Texas Tornado went more in an R&B direction on side one, and then veered wildly (as was Doug's custom) to more rock and Tex-Mex on side two. Too, it was even more of a commercial flop than its predecessor, yet its reliance on original material--Sahm penned eight of the 11 songs--make this a favorite album among many of his fans. Includes `San Francisco FM Blues'; `Someday'; `Blue Horizon'; `Tennessee Blues'; `Ain't That Loving You'; `Texas Tornado'; `Juan Mendoza'; `Chicano'; `I'll Be There'; `Hard Way', and `Nitty Gritty'. Latter-day lineup of the Sir Douglas Quintet features (of course) Augie Meyers on keyboards and Texas fiddler-guitarist Alvin Crow. Sir Doug is in fine voice here, standing out on the Dylan tune "Tom Thumb's Blues" and Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy."

Best of all, though, is the classic "She's About A Mover," which isn't long enough. On the other hand, the "Mendocino" medley is probably a little too long.

Too bad there aren't any songs from the "Border Wave" album that Doug Sahm recorded with this same lineup. In fact, why isn't that one out on CD?

SRV said that Wilson was a huge influence on him...and this is why. Great guitar, stompin', rompin' bustin' rock-n'roll, no holds barred. This is turn-the TV-off-get-off-the-couch and have fun doin' the dishes music.
