The Beatles' last days as a band were as productive as any major pop phenomenon that was about to split. After recording the ragged-but-right Let It Be, the group held on for this ambitious effort, an album that was to become their best-selling. Though all four contribute to the first side's writing, John Lennon's hard-rocking, "Come Together" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" make the strongest impression. A series of song fragments edited together in suite form dominates side two; its portentous, touching, official close ("Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End") is nicely undercut, in typical Beatles fashion, by Paul McCartney's cheeky "Her Majesty," which follows. --Rickey Wright

If I could pick only one Beatles CD to play this would be it.......2007-07-08
The Fab Four were at the top of their form and their work was varied and adventurous on "Abbey Road". While murder wasn't a totally unknown topic in rock, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" with its bright instrumentation blew our minds back in the day.
Odd and sad that "Come Together" opens this CD and it was the last of their big hits together. I've rearranged this one on my iPod so that "Golden Slumbers" and is the last of this offering. Just seemed fitting to me.
My personal favorite.......2007-07-08
I was a college freshman in 1963 when the Beatles burst upon the scene in the United States. For the next 7 years, my friends and I waited with baited breath for each new album release. By 1970, the party was over for the Beatles, but their music lives on and has been embraced by each succeeding generation. What has always amazed me is how their music could be so diverse, innovative and flat-out wonderful and at the same time be so commercially successful. One does not usually associate high artistic quality with mass popularity.
I will avoid the unproveable assertion that "Abbey Road" is the group's best album but will state unequivocably that it is my all-time favorite. The music is truly inspired, particularly the medley on the second side. I am truly grateful that the Beatles stayed together long enough to record this masterpiece.
Fab Four's True Swan Song.......2007-06-28
'Abbey Road' is the last Beatles album, although 'Let It Be' was released afterwards. After all these years and listening to this record on vinyl, I got to say this is one of the best sounding albums of all time. Despite the fact that sound quality technology has been refined over the last 40 years, no one could do it better then the Beatles.
"Come Together" begans this album and always has been one of my Top favorite Beatle songs. Another favorite and beginning side two is "Here Comes the Sun" which I believe is George Harrison's best song out of all of the fab fours catalog. One of his best loved songs.
Sure, there are rather silly songs like Paul's "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (which I truly enjoyed growing up, still do) and Ringo's "Octopus' Garden" - but I believe these songs add surrealism and fun to one of The Beatles' best.
'Abbey Road' truly is the last Great Beatles album. The band with this release provides a very cohesive sound, working together, although they were on the verge of splitting up.
Ringo Starr's drumming is at his best on this record, especially on tracks like "Oh! Darling" and "The End"
To me, 'Abbey Road' sounds Worlds ahead of 'Let It Be'-which is still a great album. On 'Let It Be' is the album that the Fab Four sound like independent members, rather then what they do best - working together.
- A perfect end to the World's Greatest pop band.
batcall.......2007-06-27
You can't beat the Beatles. Next to Sgt. Pepper's, this is my favorite LP by them.
The Beatles' Alpha & Omega.......2007-06-17
Abbey Road remains a bittersweet experience for most Beatles fans.
Abbey Road reveals that the Beatles, regardless of personal turmoil and circumstances, were still making music at an incomparable level even as they were going out. As musicians, they influenced the world around them, and did just about anything they wanted to do on a musical canvas. They were secure financially but never complacent about their work. They were challenged by music and in turn, challenged what could be done within their musical landscape.
Up to this point - they'd done just about every genre of music from pop, hard rock, proto-metal, country, ballad, blues, world...Abbey Road is simply an extension of that musical adventure. With the fragmentary song route established by the White Album - Abbey Road brought more of a focus to the band's short musical flirtations and excursions and made them work as a whole. It often feels like the band had so much talent to spare that they could wave their fingers and write whatever they wanted. But what the band craved was the unknown - new production methods, new experiences and styles - anything but the norm. Abbey Road succeeds in that respect.
The album is somewhat schizophrenic, and yet integrates as a complete experience and works better with each listening. The first few tracks speak volumes about each Beatle's individual personalities: "Come Together" by John Lennon reveals his rock n roll activist nature; "Something" - George Harrison's quietly passionate but emerging star; "Octopus's Garden" - Ringo's playful whimsical musical personality; "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" - Paul McCartney's affection for lighthearted ditties...although I personally find the lyrics morbid in a Sweeney Todd way. The moods and the nuances of each track speak for themselves, yet somehow playing together as the Beatles made them more brilliant than their individual talents.
The most enjoyable part is the impressive Abbey Road suite - from Because to Sun King to The End, et al - which is really a swansong to their fans and perhaps, themselves. What makes this just less than a 5 star album for me are the odd tracks and moments which indulge themselves rather than delight - McCartney's Silver Hammer is a throwaway and I Want You (She's So Heavy) drags on a little. And as mentioned many times before, George Harrison's two tracks - Something & Here Comes the Sun are the album's most endearing.
The sonic quality of the Abbey Road suite is stunning - and truly set apart the Beatles from all other bands then and now. Abbey Road was remastered 20 years ago from 8 track and yet it sounds as vibrant as anything else that has come after it. It's a testament to the band and George Martin for creating the soundscapes that the Beatles did (compare this to a Rolling Stones record from the same era and the differences are extreme). This would no doubt influence later bands like Led Zeppelin and Queen.
It's hard to imagine how any band that could've covered the amount of musical ground that the Beatles did in such a relatively short span of time. Such is a testament to their talent. Relistening to Abbey Road is a both an experience and as with other Beatles albums - a masterclass in music.

A great Bon Jovi collection.......2007-06-09
For the most part, this is a great Bon Jovi collection. I do not equally enjoy every song on this album, but this collection includes nearly all of their early hits.
Cross Road.......2007-06-09
I love this CD, it's awesome, the songs are the best. Especially "Always", "Bed of Roses" and "I'll be there for you"
Decent Beginner's Set.......2007-05-22
For people who only know Bon Jovi from their "Have A Nice Day" and beyond years, "Cross Road" is a very good collection of tunes for them to check out. It gives the listener a solid set of their most popular tunes from their hair band heyday before they got all earthy/Mellencampy. This album is by no means a complete gathering of their greatest tunes. It leaves out at least two songs ("Living In Sin" and "Born To Be My Baby") and instead fills those holes with the dismal "Prayer '94," the forgettable "Always" and the harbinger of things to come, "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night." "Someday" is actually a very good modern roots rocker, but people don't buy greatest hits albums for the new songs. People buy this album for songs like the original "Livin' on a Prayer," "Wanted Dead Or Alive," "Bad Medicine," and "I'll Be There For You."
Lesser known tunes from their earliest offerings(particularly "Runaway") signal the beginnings of a great band to come. Later songs such as "Keep The Faith" and "Bed Of Roses" reveal a band in rock decline and quickly headed for the adult contemporary sound. In short, "Crossroad" gives the listener a pretty good take on how a band from Jersey made it big, leveled off, then headed for the sweet and steady success of light rock. Just to shake things up a bit, "Blaze Of Glory" from Jon Bon Jovi's solo "Young Guns II" project is included. Sadly, we do not get a sample from any of Richie Sambora's solo works. He really is a much better guitarist than he's given credit for, and it would have been nice for one of his tunes to be included in this collection.
I grew up during Bon Jovi's prime, and am proud to say that I own original cassette copies of "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey." Although they weren't my favorite hair/glam/hard rock band (that was Def Leppard), they were still one of the best around at the time. Bon Jovi is no longer the band they once were, but for people who want to know where they came from, this is the album to pick up.
BON JOVI AT THEIR BEST!!!.......2007-02-17
Words cannot describe how awesome BON JOVI is!!! I am their #1 fan and no other group in this world produces such quality / entertaining / heartfelt music. I RECOMMEND YOU BUY HAVE A NICE DAY and ALL OF THEIR CDs!!!
We'll give it a shot........2007-01-26
I have soft spots for a lot of these songs; during my radio days, a rocking Bon Jovi single was good for a lift during the airshift. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Samboro were always good for a rock-candy riff amid the other pop tunes. The ersatz Springsteen may have been cannon fodder for critics and snobs who'd insist that the band wasn't 'rock' enough, but "Living On A Prayer" and "You Give Love a Bad Name" were meaty shout-outs for car-radio cruising.
Which is why "Crossroad" is such a great Bon Jovi record. The albums were always fair to average, but the singles were mega-shots of energy. Even the melodramatic ballads could convey the angst of blue-collar relationships. "Always" is romantic, "Wanted Dead Or Alive" outlaw mythology. I often get irritated by those who accuse hit-makers of being "corporate;" there is a skill and a knack to being a good songwriter. It means people pay attention to your songs and take them to heart.
Therein lies the rub. Bon Jovi took a lot of flack for some of these songs. But he (and the band that bears his name) have outlasted many of the 'important' artists that came and vanished with little or no consequence. "Crossroad" contains several rock classics, and that alone is enough to give it four stars. (But it is due for an update...)

J.J. Cale penned two of Eric Clapton's career-defining solo hits, "Cocaine" and "After Midnight." And since Clapton has often fashioned his persona in a WWJD manner (what would J.J. do?), this collaboration is long overdue. But despite the rather slick production and long list of guest backing musicians (including four bassists, four drummers, five other guitarists, and three percussionists), The Road to Escondido is still dominated more by Cale than Clapton. The relatively reticent Okie wrote 11 of the 14 tracks, and it's his low-key soufflé of blues, jazz, and country that shapes and directs the disc's tone, with Clapton along for the ride. The opening "Danger" sets the dusky mood as the duo rides a typical Cale swamp groove that gives way to a tightly wound Slowhand solo. They trade lead vocals on a lovely version of the after-hours jazz blues classic "Sporting Life Blues," and the ubiquitous John Mayer makes an impressive appearance on the subtle blues of "Hard to Thrill."
Clapton hasn't sounded this relaxed or involved in his own material for years. The traditionally laid-back, if not quite snoozy, Cale responds with a comparatively energized performance, likely due to the high-profile company. When the two harmonize on the mid-tempo foot tapper "Anyway the Wind Blows," the result is so natural and spontaneous it's a shame these two didn't join forces earlier. On paper, it appears that Cale has the most to gain from partnering with an established superstar, but the fact is this collaboration yields Eric Clapton's most engaging and contagious roots-rock release in a long time. --Hal Horowitz
From Amazon.ca
They say you can't go home again, but don't tell Eric Clapton. Quick on the heels of his vaunted Cream reunion/boomer wet dream, the English guitar legend teamed with influential Tulsa country-blues fixture J.J. Cale, writer of early Clapton solo hits "Cocaine" and "After Midnight," and a slate of then 'n' now all-stars (including some of the final performances by keyboard great Billy Preston) to reinvent the guitarist's laid-back '70s groove for a new era. The result is one of the most grounded and satisfying Clapton releases in many a year, a true musical collaboration with the guitarist's own longtime hero that coaxes their muses down familiar, if still refreshing, musical avenues.
The album's billing seems more than merely alphabetical: Cale pens 11 of the tunes, with Clapton contributing the gentle acoustic folk-pop of "Three Little Girls" and John Mayer offering up the slinky, jaded blues "Hard to Thrill," where fellow fret god Albert Lee adds his touch to Clapton's countrified revival. But it's the interplay between Cale and Clapton that carries the day throughout, from the signature sound of "Danger" and single "Ride the River" and the Deadhead-friendly vibes of the shuffling "Missing Person" and "When the War Is Over" to their deliciously languorous cover of "Sporting Life Blues." Clapton's playing is as lyrical as ever, yet channeled into a savory heartland mindset that's anything but clichéd. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
After years of admiring each other's musical masterworks, guitar great J.J. Cale and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer/Grammy-winner Eric Clapton have teamed up to create an original album together called The Road to Escondido. The resulting hybrid sound defies labels, and instead finds influence across the spectrum of blues, rock, country, and fold. The songs are warm and rich with deep-flowing rhythms while using an economy of words to express much.

Great pairing.......2007-05-14
Finally, an album I can use for cruisin' in the car, or dance to if the mood strikes! Cale's and Clapton's styles are wonderfully complimentary. Sure, maybe the album is a bit reminiscent of the '70s, and doesn't explore new territory, but there was lot of FINE and fun music that came out then, which made us SMILE. It's great these two legends chose to reiterate that feeling, including other notables to team up with them.
pleased.......2007-05-13
the guitar playing by both is fantastic, I would like to see Eric and JJ on tour together, what a concert that would be, imagin!!!!!!!!
a good lesson on how a rock star gracefully ages .......2007-04-07
Eric Clapton has made it thru much in the past 40 years: drugs and alcohol, personal tragedy, and horrible 80's synthesizers. This CD is just plain good-it doesn't try to be something it's not, and Clapton doesn't have to prove he's a guitar god anymore. J.J. Cale writes some good bluesy rock songs and together they sound great. The addition of Dereck Trucks on slide guitar is terrific, as is Billy Preston on the organ. This recording is not "slick" or "overproduced" as some have said-it sounds smooth, clear and accurate. I have a feeling that this CD will receive regular playing time on my stereo for many, many years.
The Road to Escondido.......2007-03-30
This is the latest in the "Best-Of" For Clapton to unifiy with JJ Cale with Taj Mahal's harmonica, JJ Cale's band, this is sincerely one of the finest sounds I have heard from either of them. They have picked a few of John's best songs and melded their voices and their guitars. Clapton wanted to learn Cale's studio techniques and if he didn't he wasn't watching. This will be one of my favorites for a long time to come and one I will turn other's on to.
Great CD.......2007-03-27
Finally J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton have got together,
Tha album is great and shows Clapton in another light by playing Cale style. Great songs and an all Round listening pleasue

Album Description
It's the harmonies that draw you in. The big, lush, gorgeous harmonies. You're hooked and it's then that you realize that it's not just the harmonies. Everything about Little Big Town is unique to the country music world. Comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, Little Big Town's configuration of two men and two women is unique. Also unique is that there is no single lead vocalist all four take on lead vocal responsibilities. Little Big Town's voices blend so effortlessly one would think they'd been singing together since childhood. While that isn't quite true, their backgrounds are strikingly similar. All four band members began singing in church and with their families and Phillip even performed in a family band. Each then blossomed in their craft during college, a career as a professional musician the clear path for each. Equity. 2005.

Great Musicianship and Awesome Vocals!!!!.......2007-06-19
This album is a real gem! I first was exposed to this group through watching them do "Good As Gone" on Nashville Star last season. Prior reviews which criticize their similarity to Fleetwood Mac are really unfair to both LBT and Fleetwood Mac. Yes, they were definitely influenced by Fleetwood Mac, but they are extremely talented in their own right! The vocal talent and musicianship is first rate!
My one criticism (which is minor) involves a certain similarity of the first three songs on the album. In other words, there is a very similar vibe in a number of songs such as Good As Gone, Boondocks, and Bones...(Tryin' to Find A Reason - also similar vibe - is later in the album song order).
There is some great guitar work which includes some very impressive Dobro work from Jerry Douglas. This album is definitely worth getting!
Hillbilly Gold.......2007-05-21
Like Ray Charles used to say, "Country music artist tell great stories." I'm slowly becoming more of a contemporary country fan. And I stress; contemporary. The first time I heard 'Bring it on Home, I thought, "I kind of like that song." A good friend let me listen to the CD and I was hooked. 'The Road to Here,' is a fun piece of work; welcome to the family!
It's all good visiting Little Big Town.......2007-05-15
Okay, so I'm totally re-writing & re-submitting my rating of this album. I went to a "Little Big Town" Concert and was blown away. They were incredible and I own them a huge apology for only giving them three stars the first time around. The harmonies were amazing...so, I've gone back and listened to the album & deemed myself delerious in relation to my first review. The four singers are perfectly balanced and the songs are fun. No wonder they won big Country Music Awards for this album. So, ignore my first rating and buy the album.
love it.......2007-05-14
Great CD! And they are just as good live in concert! I recommend it. Balance between slow songs and upbeat songs.
Great music for a non-country fan!.......2007-05-09
I purchased this CD because I heard some of their songs on TV while browsing through channels. Although considered a country group, their music has a Fleetwood Mac sound to it. I never thought I'd purchase a country CD, but Little Big Town has changed my mind about the genre. Great harmony and great musicians!

Rarely mentioned as one of the great double albums, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road had to settle for ending up in a few million record collections. So sprawling that it doesn't quite measure up to the earlier, more laid-back Honky Chateau or the later, pushy Rock of the Westies, this still holds claim to a lot of brilliant, very pop-savvy music: the winking rebellion of "Bennie and the Jets" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," the ready-made nostalgia of "The Ballad of Danny Bailey," the downbeat melodicism of "Harmony." --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
The Definetive Elton John album.......2007-06-21
If there was ever an album that defined the seventies, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" has got to be one of them. It is also the album that comes closest to being what Elton was about in his grandest. Extravagant, over-the-top, melodic and brash, this double album is probably how many from the period would describe both the album and the performer. As such, it redefined music and super stardom, and is a classic.
Stylistically, the 1973 version of Elton John and Bernie Taupin were now fearless. They were (to quote a line that eventually became part of "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy") turning them out thick and fast. There was the beautiful, melodic piano work on the title track and "Candle In The Wind," the hard rocking "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting," the western looking "Social Disease" and the melodrama in "I've seen that movie too" and "Harmony." Seventeen near flawless songs over two albums, and that was following the breakthrough of "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" and the number one "Crocodile Rock" from earlier that same year.
It wasn't just the seeming effortlessness to Elton and Bernie's prolific pace that was so attractive, it was the extravagance. Elton's reputation as a showman had already become the stuff of legend, and in the feverish time of the seventies, he allowed that into the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" artowrk. The original album was a thing of ornate beauty, a triple-fold gate sleeve that expanded out to show Elton stepping into a magic kingdom in ruby red platform shoes. The inner-sleeves were decorated with illustrations for each lyric and the band photos. It was everything you wanted in an album at the time...the full experience. Something you really don't get from too many performers these days. (And better reproduced in the Deluxe "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.")
As such, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is as good as gold. I know it is a cliche, but they just don't make 'em like this anymore.
Elton! Elton!.......2007-06-08
This is one of my favorite Elton John albums. I had it on vinyl when it first came out (was that yesterday?) and bought it recently as a CD because of technology.
Elton John rocks strong and even does some "lighter" music to give us all a golden nugget of an album !!!.......2007-06-03
Elton John has enriched us all with his incredible artistry. He remains a prolific writer and he sings with all his heart. This double LP album entitled Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, here on one CD, shows us just a glimpse of Elton's great artistry in rock, reggae and "lighter" music as well.
The CD starts with one of Elton's greatest masterpieces entitled "Funeral For A Friend (Love Lies Bleeding)." Elton's piano and the work of his band make a smashing musical intro to a song about a love gone bad. Elton displays his raw emotion on this track as he sings about how "love lies bleeding in (his) hands."
The CD track set remains incredibly strong with "Candle In The Wind" and "Bennie And The Jets." "Candle In The Wind" explores how people can be misunderstood and abused and it uses Marilyn Monroe as an example. "Candle In The Wind" also features Elton's piano playing to reflect the sensitivity of the song. In addition, "Bennie And The Jets" paints a portrait of a fictional female rock star and her band. The rock beat on "Bennie And The Jets" is strong, solid and awesome.
The title track actually comes fourth on the set: "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" allows Elton to sing of a supposedly beautiful and luxurious lifestyle that he realizes is not as special as he thought it would be. The use of the image of the yellow brick road to a better life from The Wizard Of Oz works well; and we see, just like Dorothy concluded, that there's no place like home.
If you REALLY want to hear Elton at his most versatile, listen to "This Song Has No Title." Elton plays farfisa organ, electric piano, mellotron AND piano!!! This number shines like pure gold and the mixing reflects excellent judgment. The melody of this song is wonderful.
On "Jamaica $erk-Off" Elton and the band turn out an excellent reggae tune that beckons to you to love it; Elton sings his praises for the island of Jamaica and Prince Rhino's "vocal interjections" rule!
Other gems on this CD include the stunningly beautiful "I've Seen That Movie Too;" for this song Elton sings of how he won't let himself be fooled by a woman who doesn't truly love him. The piano and percussion work wonders in the arrangement; and Del Newman's orchestral arrangement stuns you with its beauty. "Sweet Painted Lady" tells the story of a woman who "rents by the hour" as she "satisfies" the sailors in the port; Elton sings this with a type of sensitivity that I rarely experience. Del Newman once again gives "Sweet Painted Lady" a gorgeous orchestral arrangement. Excellent!!!
"All The Girls Love Alice" lets Elton sing about a young lady who enjoys pleasing some of the other girls in town; however the ending is most definitely glum. The musical arrangement shifts back and forth between a hard rockin' song and a type of love ballad with a much slower tempo and great key changes--and this impresses me greatly.
Of course, there's that Elton John classic number, "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting." This number showcases the youthful rebellion young people experience when they are starting their own lives separate from their parents. I can just envision all these young people marching and dancing through the streets chanting this anthem as they shake their fists in the air!
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. "Harmony," the last track on this CD, moves you with its sensitivity; and Elton delivers this with great panache. An excellent number to close the track set!
The liner notes feature an awesome essay by John Tobler; and you get all the lyrics and song credits. The beautiful art work enhances the liner notes as well.
Elton John is a living legend. Long after most "celebrities" are dead and forgotten, Elton John will remain in our hearts and minds because of his incredible music and his legendary performances. Thank goodness Elton has shared his work with us; and, if we're lucky, Elton will be performing for many more years to come.
A pop masterpiece..........2007-04-17
This is Elton's best album, a double LP masterpiece without a wasted note or lyric. From the epic opening suite Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding to the wonderful Harmony, every song is a pop masterpiece. It's hard to pick out my favorite songs, because depending on my mood, I can listen to any song on this album at anytime. So, here's a few. I love the title track, This Song Has No Title, Grey Seal, Sweet Painted Lady, Jamacia Jerk Off, Roy Rogers, Social Disease, and Harmony. I really like Jamacia Jerk Off and Social Disease, but then I can go for Grey Seal and This Song Has No Title. Most people never give Elton credit for making some of the best pop music of the 1970's. They treat him like an afterthought, which they shouldn't. His music writing and playing talents are first rate. The cover art is great, too.
rocketmanjettingfan.......2007-03-27
Oh my goodness! "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" should have 10+ STARS! I remember when this came out when I was in junior high school. My favorites are "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" "Candle In The Wind", "Saturday Night's Allright For Fighting" and most definitely the one that I love the most is "Bennie & The Jets". Out of all the music Elton Hercules John (correction:) Sir Elton Hercules John has made, this is my favorite and a must for all his fans. I still have the "LP" version. I remember when he was on "Soul Train" on May 24, 1975 and sang
"Philadelphia Freedom" and "Bennie & The Jets". He made history as the first rock artist to appear on that show and he mentioned that "Soul Train" was his favorite TV show. Sir Elton Hercules John is a legend and his music always have moved me in a way that just have me "high as a kite by then". The Rocket Man at his best! What else can you say about Sir Elton Hercules John besides he's "The Rocket Man" who have put the music world and his fans on a jet ride for over 35 years? I don't know about you, but he has had me rockin' since I heard of him and he is the absolute
best and I will always love him and I'm proud to say that his music has made me very happy since the very beginning. If you don't have "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" buy it, you won't regret it.

The heartland rocker's first album of all-new material in more than five years finds John Mellencamp in full anthem mode. This is his State of the Union address, with guitars that chime like the Byrds heralding sentiments that recall the socially-conscious 1960s, yet sound all the more pertinent today. Balancing the desolate landscape of "Ghost Towns Along the Highway," the hell-on-earth of "Rural Route," and the tolls demanded on the title track's "Freedom's Road" are the embrace of brotherhood on "Someday," the Everyman populism of "The Americans," and the soaring transcendence of "My Aeroplane." Within the context of the album's song cycle, the "Our Country" centerpiece sounds richer and more powerful than it has as a truck commercial--like a roots-rocking sequel to Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." Mellencamp enlists Joan Baez for a duet on the protest ballad "Jim Crow," while saving his most blistering political commentary for the unlisted bonus track, "Rodeo Clown." --Don McLeese

Mellencamp's Return to Greatness!.......2007-07-03
Finally returning to the music that made him great, John Mellencamp nails it with this CD. Although not a Scarecrow or Jubilee, this is a solid CD which definitely harkens back to these other works. We've definitely missed him and his music. Although fans will always buy whatever he puts out, it was clear that he was trying new musical paths that didn't completely work for him until he woke up with this effort! Thanks John! You didn't forget your roots after all.
Surprisingly good! Good show!.......2007-06-27
After the all-cover TROUBLE NO MORE and the decent but weak-in-the-second-half CUTTIN' HEADS, I thought perhaps Mellencamp's muse had left for greener passages; at 56, who would've expected such a comeback? I bought this cd, thought it was pretty decent, but it hung with me; I keep coming back to it week after week (it hasn't left my car for 2 months!), and I'm listening to it constantly. The production on this record is incredible; it has a haunting sound unlike any of his other records, and the sonic quality the guys come up with are terrific, particularly with the guitar parts and the harmonies. The songs themselves are good; if he doesn't tread a lot of new ground, he doesn't sound burnt out at all; "Someday," "Freedom's Road," "My Aeroplane" and "Rural Route" are as good as anything he's done, sonically and performance wise. "Our Country" has created a lot of backlash, and if I watched tv more maybe it would annoy me too, but it would've been a top 10 single back in the day and sits quite nicely in the sequencing towards the end of the cd. This is definitely one of the best rock records of recent memory.

since Neil Young's Freedom back in 1989. Great music, terrific lyrics!

it was my first purchase with Amazon and I was impatient to ear it. unfortunately the shipment has been lost and I had to wait for another one. But it was impossible to resist to Mellencamp and I bought the cd in a music shop in the nearby town. Now I have two copies of it.
Still rockin on Freedom's Road.......2007-05-13
John Mellencamp proves he's still got the ability to evolve musically and with success. Some really interesting instrumentals and lyrics, even a couple of dark songs--if you are a Mellencamp fan, this won't disappoint you!

After the sort of year that Kenny Chesney has experienced--from a whirlwind courtship through a short-lived marriage--a guy needs some time to chill. Thus it's no surprise that The Road and the Radio finds the party-hearty country hunk in an uncommonly introspective mood. The soul-searching title track establishes the album's intimacy and theme of taking stock, sustained through the bittersweet balladry of "Who You'd Be Today," "In a Small Town," "Freedom," and "Like Me." Though Chesney only wrote one track here, "Beer in Mexico," he invests the rest with personal conviction. Even the comparatively hard-rocking "Living in Fast Forward" has a reflective twist to it, while the Caribbean lilt of "Tequila Loves Me" has more than a measure of melancholy. Whatever the effects of romantic travails on his personal life, his music has gained some emotional depth. --Don McLeese

I like Kenny Chesney..........2007-06-17
...but what the hell is the point of putting out an album when you didn't even write the songs? It's a ridiculous concept. This is someone else's heart and soul, not Kenny Chesney's. The only one he wrote has the word "beer" in the title. What an artist!
Best Kenny Chesney CD!!!.......2007-05-28
There are more Kenny Chesney hit songs on this CD. I can listen to this CD over and over. My favorite is "Who You'd Be Today." It reminds me of my friend's son who's helicopter was shot down in Iraq in 2006. God bless Maj."Bubba" Worrell and God bless Kenny Chesney.

Here today im witing about kenny chesney Road and Radio Tour CD.I like listing to his music because his music is just so good to hear his good voice sing all his good songs. Last year i went to Freedom Hall and seen his Road and Radio Tour it was an awesome concert. He brings so much enery to the crouds at the concert. That's why he's my favorite counrty music singer.
Great album.......2007-04-10
My husband, a new country music fan, loves Kenny Chesney, so I got him this for Christmas along with some others. He really likes it.
THere are slow songs, fast, happy, sad and all done in classic Kenny Chesney.
A good buy.
Welcome Back Kenny.......2007-03-16
I've been with Kenny since his early years and it's been alittle trying seeing him travel with Buffet, as i am not that huge a fan of his. But as soon as i popped this CD in my player it felt like the old Kenny again. "Livin' in Fast Forward" and "Summertime" although still about the summer, is much less like the beach senario songs he's set up recently and much more about relaxin and havin a good time. "Beer in Mexico" might be one of my favorite songs because of all the brass that's used, and "Somebody Take Me Home" is another favorite. It's so catchy and different. If you are new to Kenny, you should like this for his singles, but keep in mind that it isn't all beach songs. He's gone back and put a few more meaningful songs with messages on this one as he did in his early years. No matter what, Kenny rocks! Can't wait to see him AGAIN in August!

It's never easy following up a multi-platinum success, but Canada's Nickelback's latest seem sure to match the sales of the many-million-selling Silver Side Up. The formula remains pretty much the same--nothing fancy, just radio-friendly grunge that lends an appropriately dramatic backing to the powerful and increasingly confident voice of Chad Kroeger. Aside from the fast and punchy opener "Flat on the Floor," the tough, staccato "Because of You," and the Oasis-like "Figured You Out," the band deal exclusively in soft-rock anthems (soft, that is, by 2003's pulverizing standards). The only real change here lies is in Kroeger's lyrical concerns. Where 2000's The State found him suffering the frustrations of small-town life, now he's tortured by a heavy touring schedule that promotes destructive drug abuse and strains relationships to breaking point. That said, you can't help feeling the ruthlessly analytical Kroeger would turn a visit to the supermarket into a riot of hatred and self-recrimination. For fans of Silver Side Up, Nickelback have delivered the goods once more. --Dominic Wills
Customer Reviews:
Figured You Out.......2007-07-06
I just heard the song "Figured you out" last week - June of 07'. I was flipping around on my car radio, and stopped on this song cause it totally rocked! But, once I payed attention to the lyrics, I was appalled they were playiing this song at 1pm in the afternoon! This song is degrading to women - it promotes sexual violence and applauds a female who is submissive and has low self esteem. How can we as a society say it's okay for radio stations to play a song like this, especially during hours most children could be listening. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in Nickelback for writing this song - as well as the new song "Rockstar". Shame on you guys. You may not have asked to be role models, but you are now. Show some integrity and live up to it.
Amazing!.......2007-06-03
This is by far the best Nickelback Cd ever produced. The are three songs that really stick out to me.
1-Do This Anymore
2-See You At The Show
3-Because of You
Overall, this is a must have!
Solid effort, through and through.......2006-06-26
Nickelback follows up Silver Side Up with another catchy, angst-driven grunge disc. What's good is that the lyrical content is more varied with this effort. The one downer: "Someday" sounds virtually identical to "How you Remind Me" (tempo, guitars, drum parts, everything ... there's even a mash-up avaiable online where the two songs are played simultaneously and you really notice the similarities).
Other than that, there are songs dealing with social matters "Believe it or not", "Throw Yourself Away", Chad Kroeger's personal relationship demons "Do This Anymore", "Someday", to mention a few, and songs that are just plain fun to rock out to "Because of You", "Flat on the Floor".
This album is pure grunge with a commercial twist that gives it an almost universal appeal. No, it will not appeal to music purists, nor will it appeal to fans of softer music, but it will to a lot of other people.
That, and the fact that it is a little more varied lyrically than Silver Side Up, and you have a winner.
Are you that dumb?.......2006-06-16
Whoever said this album isn't even worth a penny is the dumbest person ever. He (or she) asked a very stupid question. Where did the 90's go? There still back in the 90's! Every generation has it's own kind of music. Do you expect to hear Elvis on the popular radio stations anytime soon? No, because he is in the past and new music has come out. The 90's are called the 90's because they were played in the 90's! New music is and will forever be coming out and if your stuck in the 90's then don't turn on the damn radio because most of the stations will be playing music like this. So shut up about your favorite music because nobody cares what it is.
What a load of dung...........2006-04-17
When I first heard Nickelback about 7 or 8 years ago (The State), I thought they were decent, nothing great, but decent. I still think The State is an OK disc. But like most bands, once they sell out and find fame, the quality of the product goes down the tubes. Besides being musically bland, and never changing...the lyrics are just about as deep as a rain puddle after a drizzle. "Figured you out" has to be the worst...any 8th grade dropout could write that, its just plain dumb, as well as vulgar.

Amazon.com's Best of 1998
Six years in the making, Car Wheels somehow lives up to its lofty expectations because of Williams's direct songwriting and her wonderfully unaffected vocals. With assistance from cohorts such as Steve Earle, Williams uses the acoustic accents of Dobros, mandolins, slide guitars, and accordions to add color to her grooves, whispers, and rumbles. Her lyrics are undisguised as she presents to us the travelogue of her memory. We can't wait for 2004! --Marc Greilsamer
Amazon.com essential recording
Lucinda Williams makes this whole music thing seem so simple: Write in plain language about the people and places that crowd your memory; add subtle flavors of a mandolin here, a Dobro there, perhaps an accordion or slide guitar; above all, sing as honestly and naturally as you can. Of course, it took her six years to achieve this simplicity, an amazing achievement considering the number of knobs that were turned. Her exquisite voice moans and groans and slips and slides--she delivers a polished tone in a coarse manner. On the superb "Concrete and Barbed Wire," soft acoustic guitars are punctuated by electric slide, accordion, mandolin, and Steve Earle's harmony. Williams's deeply personal stories are matched with bluesy rumbles, raunchy grooves, and plaintive whispers. The entire Deep South is reduced to a sleepy small town filled with ex-lovers, dive bars, and endless gravel roads. --Marc Greilsamer

Lustful.......2007-06-09
If you're looking for a nice soothing CD to "set the mood"...then this CD album by Lucinda Williams should do the job quite nicely. There are a couple of songs that are just a bit "too country" for me...but the rest of the CD more than makes up for this minor deficiency.
Lucinda Williams is my ELVIS!.......2007-04-12
I am BLOWN AWAY by this album!
Only once or twice if you're lucky in a lifetime if you come across an artist with this level of creativity and talent.
"Too Cool to be Forgotten" - Hey Hey....this song will be remade by future generations of Rockers.
"On the way to Jackson" - A fantastic song that sounds like it's been around since pioneer days and yet it had just been CREATED by Lucinda!
"Lake Charles" - Oh my! What a DELICIOUS SONG!
I can't say ENOUGH how FANTASTIC this whole album is and I don't like writing long-winded reviews...but to give it justice - I would have to create a review as big as anyone's viewing area. Every song on this album is INCREDIBLE!
Every song...something that future generations will re-do. Way ahead of it's time in creativity and originality.
P.S. I've read a lot of people comparing Lucinda Williams with Patty Griffin. Hands down. No contest. Lucinda RULES though I also love Patty Griffin incredibly well.

A solid 5 stars.......2007-01-20
This has become one of my desert island CDs - right along with Joni Mitchell's "Hejira", Bob Dylan's "Desire", Stevie Wonder's "(well, ALL of his 1970's music), Emmylou Harris' "Wrecking Ball", Neil Young's Crazy Horse stuff... The song that really gets me is "2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten" - for that incredibly liquid guitar sound. It's not my favorite song on the CD - that is "Lake Charles", but hey - the next time I listen I'll probably have another favorite song. Every single selection on this CD is a masterpiece of the genre - there is not a single throwaway track in sight. This is roots soul music - anyone who has ever lived on a farm, hitchhiked across the countryside, found themselves alone and come to terms with their own sense of being, been hammered by the storms of life and love - would find a lot to like about this music. Her voice is not polished, it is not a five octave mindblower, it is not smooth or pitch-perfect. What Lucinda William's voice is though is... real, powerful, compelling and very sexy. This vocalist writes songs perfectly fitted to her instrument, and then creates a sound that washes over me in a hundred layers all at once. That's damn fine music in my book...
Excellent CD from Lucinda Williams.......2007-01-09

Key to the success of this prime-time teen soap opera has been a mix of contemporary rock and pop that musically embroiders the show's increasingly complex mix of hope, fear, and youthful angst with often melodramatic flair. This third volume of songs from the successful series continues in that tradition while, as the title suggests, exploring a little wider artistic range. "Don't Wait" by Dashboard Confessional and the Honorary Title's "Stay Away" immediately anchor the set with a familiar tone of urgency, while star Tyler Hilton offers up another expected sensitive acoustic ballad in "You'll Ask for Me." But elsewhere, the collection admirably pushes the envelope via such tasty, eclectic morsels as the infectious pop of the Kooks' "Naïve," Gym Class Heroes turning "Good Vibrations" into a stripped-down shuffle, and the effusive hip-hop-pop of Lupe Fiasco's "I Gotcha." But it's still a collection centered largely on the contemplative, indie spirit embodied by the Wreckers' gorgeous "Lay Me Down," Lucero's emotive dirge "Tell Me What It Takes," and the Constantines' similarly focused "Soon Enough." --Jerry McCulley

Perfect for the Road.......2007-06-14
I loved this disk from the first time I listened to it, but I had to know if it worked out on the road. I took a road trip from southern Kansas up to the NE part of the state playing this cd, and I fell in love all over again. Anybody who's gone thru Kansas knows what the landscape looks like, and it made the perfect backdrop to the music.
Hands down La Rocca's "Non-Believer," The Weepies "World Spins Madly On," and Band of Horses' "Funeral" are the best tracks on the album. Those songs alone are worth buying the cd for.
Awesomeness.......2007-06-10
It's a great CD! There's not a song I don't like. Tyler's new song is a must be hit. The Weepies are always a good addition.
That's what I like about the OTH soundtracks. They're not filled with "what's now" hot in the music scene, but rather songs that can be listened to over and over, because you're not going to always hear them on the radio.
the perfect follow up,hope there'll be a fourth..........2007-04-12
I admit,I love the show, but overall,it music and of couse it soundtracks, but I must say that some of the choices made for the track selection are a little too easy:
Don't wait : way to obvious choice but great though. The perfect song to start the CD with. 4,5/5
stay away : not the best from the band, but after listening to it several times you get used to it. 4/5
naive : good choice, siuts very well with the show itself, but not so good song. 3/5
the funeral : one of the highlight from the CD,great choice!....5/5
heartbeats : just the same as naive, but a good song. 3.5/5
you'll ask me : not his best by far and I must say that I get a little tired of him.
i gotcha : not the usual OTH tune but really great choice, second highlight. 5/5
good vibrations : way too much Citizen Cope vibes for me,but an OK song. 4/5
lay me down : third highlight, love the band and Michelle Branch. 5/5
soon enough : beautiful song but unnoticed, too bad. 3/5
he lays in the rein : fourth highlight, such a beautiful and lyrical song. 5/5
tell me what it takes : the same as soon enough, plus the song's not so good as for the band which is supposed to be one of Luca's favorite...2.5/5
just be simple : could have been a highlight but way too obvious and passe choice. 4.5/5
world spins madly on : love the band ad the song, fifth highlight. 5/5
non-believer : the perfect choice which was to be made.the sound from the great episode, song to live and die by,reminds me so much of Peyton. The sixth and last but not least highligh fom the CD. 5/5
chloe dancer/crowns of thorns : not my favorite at all but Jason Shwartzman made such a moving speech telling us why he chose the song that we have to at least like it. 3.5/5
If you love the show and the previous soundtrack just buy it,if not,buy it cause you'll find something you love on it.
Another Great Soundtrack.......2007-04-05
One Tree Hill has really done it again. If you are a fan of the first two soundtracks, you will undoubtedly love this one. The show does a tremendous job of using music to help tell a story, and this soundtrack features the perfect sampling of songs from several of the pivotal scenes this season. I love that OTH offers a showcase for a lot of up-and-coming artists, so for those looking for something a little different than what's out on mainstream radio, I highly recommend this CD.
