About the Artist
Here's some info about the wiley boys known as The Little Wheels Band. Michael John Ahern (MJ) writes, plays guitars, sings and is a California born musician and producer and some say the driving force behind The Little Wheels Band. MJ's influences include Dicky Betts, Dan Folgelberg, Rick Roberts, Gary Moore, Glenn Phillips and Adam Duritz. When not touring with the LWB MJ works as a solo acoustic act with a repertoire ranging in genre spanning the last century.An accomplished studio musician, Michael John has credits on 14 commercial projects in addition to his own musical catalog. Michael John has three solo albums commercially available including his recent solo effort Nine Lives (July 03). Michael is married to his wife Cherie and his Fender Telecaster and lives near San Francisco, CA. Michael thanks Jay Saber,Steve Perkins, Nick Damer,Henry Kaiser, AmplifierCovers.com, LM Products and H.A.Z. Laboratories for their generous support.

Gary Chiappetta plays the Emmons D-10 push- pull Pedal Steel Guitar through a Fender Twin Reverb and has for over 30 years. G.C.is former helicopter pilot, United States Marine and electronics guru. Originally from San Diego Gary moved to the Bay Area in 1947. He has played with The Brownville Lady and LD Straley, Harry Moore and the Landing Party, Go For Broke, and Brad Souls and the Lost River Band. Gary's influences include Ralph Mooney and Buddy Emmons. Gary always uses silver in his solder because it keeps the werewolves away. Gary just recently up and quit the band after 2 years citing "creative differences". The boys wish him well and are know sorting through the ranks for the ideal replacement. Hope she's good lookin!

Lachlann Kane plays keyboards, sings, writes, and complains a lot. Besides being a veteran of Bay Area bands like the Usual Suspects, Strawman, Thirstn Howl, the Castaways, the Crawdads, The Webs, and The Sun Kings, he has had the pleasure of playing with Clarence Clemons, and Peter Tork from the Monkees. A Philadelphia native, he enjoys playing the funk-pop sound, and vocal doo-wop. He took his first piano lesson from a ruler-wielding nun in 1963, and has played religiously every since.

Harold Ohashi plays drums like a rock star dedicating his waking moments to the three D's. Drums and two other academic pursuits that good taste prevents us from listing here. This has earned him the nickname "Triple D". Born in the state of Hawaii Harold came to California on a balsa raft barely escaping the effects of hyperthermia. Legend has it that when they found young Harold washed up on shore and shivering it was in perfect ¾ time. Harold also drums for the legendary rock band Switchblade Nixon, lives in Pacifica, CA and enjoys off-roading to places law enforcement can't find him.

Drew Pieros is a self-taught percussionist originating from New Jersey. Trained as an alto sax player from grade school, Drew realized his true musical calling and picked up percussion while attending college (MANY moons ago), and has been playing with a diverse group of musicians ever since. Accompanying a wide range of musical styles as far flung as reggae, jazz, R&B, folk rock, funk, and experimental instrumental music, Drew's excitement and enthusiasm for the Little Wheels' music is demonstrated in every performance. Aside from playing music, Drew is also a Dad to two great kids, and owns his own marketing research consultancy, PRC. After living stints in NJ, Boston, Los Gatos, and Santa Cruz, Drew now makes his home amidst the lovely redwoods in Felton, CA.

Rob "mojo man" Wenig started playing bass at the ripe old age of 22. He was first captivated by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Clapton, Allmans, and Grateful Dead and then began a lifelong interest in jazz in high school. Rob studies with the Berkeley Jazz Workshop and also plays in a trio with guitar and piano. The Little Wheels Band is an emerging West Coast Country Rock / Americana phenomena touring together since December of 2003. Right away this rag-tag band of fathers, lovers and stead fast musical patriots quickly made an impression. Continuing to forge through many of the defining Bay Area musical haunts a common sentiment emerged. "You guys are best band we've heard in years". This has led to some fun work for band including opening slots at the 2004 Grand National Rodeo and for Sara Evans. Also in the mix was some West Coast Television, band favorite funky roadhouse shows and some high paying swank holiday parties. The Little Wheel Band debut CD is strong, perhaps as strong as the legendary debut material by band musical influences Hank Williams, The Band, The Grateful Dead and Johnny Cash. From their debut CD the single "She's the One" is scheduled to air this spring in 26 countries on 550 country stations. LWB is a 6-piece country rock-jam band is led by songwriter/producer Michael John Ahern (guitar, vocals) and songwriter Lachlann Kane(piano, vocals) performing booty swayin' songs written by such legendary songwriters as John Prine, Jagger and Richards, Ernest Tubbs, Johnny Cash and Steve Goodman. Add to the mix the deep end of Berkeley bassist Rob "mojo " Wenig who brings forward a pychadelic jazz feel, rock drummer Harold " triple D" Ohashi, percussionist Drew Pieros , and bluesy harp and vocals by Bocephus Putnam. The idiot from Virginia thought it a bit strange that an American black man would give the communists a chance. Looking back from modern perspective is easier than what he had to go on in the thirtes. Gee, I wonder why a black man would do that after all that southern hospitality, segregation, and steady work you gave the "black folk". Not to mention all those nighttime campfires you had going in their honor.
While I might be from New York I certainly would not be called a bleeding heart liberal but I can certainly understand why the poor soul was looking elsewhere. You are either ignorant of history and its influences on people or you are a totally unsympathetic jackass!!

Paul Robeson, who was brainwashed into
beleiving Communist rhetoric (which is
strange as hell for an Amer-I-can black
man). A good singing voice but all cover
songs! Come on, Paul!

A let down.......2004-09-24

I own several Robeson recordings and purchased this one with high hopes as it has a great selection of tracks. Unfortunately given the excellent recording quality of "Songs for Free Men" and "The Paul Robeson Oddyssey", the remasters from what I assume are 78's and possibly radio are a let down and mar what could have been an excellent album.

This 2 CD set of Paul Robeson is the definitive collection providing a decent overview of his work in 50 tracks all wonderfully restored from 78s as usual for ASV, with spirituals, show tunes, Shakespeare-like readings, and more done with a trademark bass voice and orchestration that backs up Paul perfectly and he would later be one of the first civil rights activists. The first disc is a reissue of the single disc "Ol' Man River-His 25 Greatest" on ASV containing "Ol' Man River," "Mighty Like a Rose," "Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho," "Carry Me Back To Green Pastures," "Lazy Bones," and many more classics which is also available here at Amazon for those who only want a single disc of Paul's work and the 2nd disc contains 25 more classics including "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen," "The Old Folks At Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Wagon Wheels," "Git On Board, Little Children," and many more. In other words, all 50 of these tracks are essential to any early pop, folk, gospel, blues, etc. music fan and this is the set to introduce yourself to his work in a convenient 2 CD package with the usual great liner notes and details on the original 78s ASV provides with each CD released in their Living Era series.
