Product Description
45 years ago in Australia, Slim Dusty and EMI celebrated Slim's 33rd birthday with a historic debut 33rpm LP release: Slim Dusty Sings. This was one of the first ever Long Play releases by an Australian artist and there was no way anyone would have anticipated that Slim Dusty would have gone on, not only to release 18 albums just in the decade of the '60s, but also continue on to release a remarkable 100 plus albums over the following four decades of his career. On the eve of what would have been Slims 78th birthday, EMI Australia here releases for the first time on CD six of Slim Dusty's classics albums from the 1960s. These historic CD releases commemorate Slim's hugely successful '60s era (12 Gold LP's) and the 45th anniversary of his debut. Slim is truly the voice of the nation, the chronicler of Australian history in song. EMI. 2005.

Customer Reviews:
The picture.......2006-12-11
I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30
This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.
Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09
This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.
If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.
An Excellent CD.......2006-07-27
Talk about bringing back memories. The music is crisp-clear & updated. For the 1999 fans-this is a must have.
Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01
Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.
Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.
Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.
However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.
Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09
I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

Lovely CD.......2004-11-14
My oldest daughter went off to boarding school recently. As a 14 year old, she took with her Jessica, Christina and Britney, but she also had the good taste to bring two Trout Cds, this one and Family Music Party.
That says a lot about them- their broad appeal. My 70 year old parents listen to them, I listen to them, my teenager listens to them and my teeny kids listen to them. That is quite an accomplishment.
As usual, this is a lyrical and beautiful Cd with clever lyrics. It is more serious than most of their work and it is nice to see them in that mode. Their adult music is as wonderful as their children's fare.
They pick some nice songs to cover- especially Dana Cooper's Mandaddy. Then there are the usual songs they write themselves which are well-crafted and immensely listenable.
The broad range of styles means that the CD never gets boring and that their versitility is shown off to its maximum potential.
One of my favorite Trout songs of all is Carry Me and this is a good version. The title track is also a great song with a good message.
The best of Trout Fishing's Adult CD's (so far).......1998-11-26
As a 10 year fan of Trout Fishing in America, I can unequivocally say that this is my favorite band of all time. I see them live whenever they come thru Texas.
My personal ranking of their 3 Adult CD's has this one first, "Truth is Stranger than Fishing" second, and "Over the Limit" third.
BTW, there are more tracks on the album than are listed here...

Decent stuff.......2007-07-04
First off cant realy say they are a second rate faraquet or something. Faraquet are a great band and it would be pretty unfair to compare one to the other especially as in my opinion Medications have their own sound.
Kind of reminds me a little of early Radiohead (which isnt a bad thing) sort of think their first 3 LPs even a little of Verve storm in heaven LP. This is good stuff, well worth a listen.
Great to see Dischord bringing out such a diversity of music, keep it up.
They are not Faraquet........2006-08-15
They are the Medications and they kick major butt. To say they have lost their edge since Faraquet is just insane. Have you listened to Twine Time? I think "View From This Tower" is a masterpiece, but this album still blows me away. I can't get enough of Ocampo's guitar work.
Best record of 2005.......2006-02-06
Medications is exactly what I needed to remedy my lack of faith in musicianship. Every aspect of their first full-length album is of the highest quality; the production, songwriting and amazing musicianship from all players is there from the onset and doesn't ever dwindle like most of the drivel that is rehashed over and over in the name of indie-rock. Then again what would you expect from former members of the amazing trio that was Faraquet? Devin Ocampo could have easily jumped into some other sub-par band and taken them to the heights of indie-rock success after disbanding Faraquet, but he stuck to writing music that he believed in and we are all the better for it. While doing a number of different musical projects, including playing drums for songwriter Mary Timony, Ocampo met and immediately started writing songs with drummer Andrew Becker and the next thing they new they had an EP's worth of material. After getting with former Fararqet drummer Chad Molter to play bass they were officially a band. Soon after they released an EP, (which I highly recommend if you can find it) toured Japan and recorded this beautiful masterpiece. This is the album of 2005! Go buy it!
weak.......2006-01-18
don't waste your time with this unless you're desperate for a bad faraquet album. too much crappy pop singing. there are some really cool parts, but... it's no faraquet. get the faraquet/akarso split and save time and money. if you want weak puss puss stuff, then go back and get smart went crazy. i was totally let down by hearing both these medications albums. they've lost their edge, and their intensity is what i believe made farquet so great. :-( i believe there is hope though, these dudes are MEGA TALENTED. maybe the next album will capture a better mood than this one.
2/3 faraquet + monster drummer.......2005-08-08
First things first- I can't vouch for the 30 second song samples. I bought the album (online, natch) and there are some great hooks on this album, but some of them don't appear in the first 30 seconds of the song.
Anyway- fantastic album. Faraquet was about my favorite band, and after listening to this album all week, I think Medications is as good or better. More melodic (vocally & musically) and at times more epic than the view from this tower. Great stuff.

Pure delight.......2006-02-06
I'm a bit biased...because the performer is my father. However, objectively, this work is one of his best. It includes performances from all over Eastern Europe. His musical genius is evident and his masterful voice leads one to experience the pure artistry and grandeur of the selections. I have been told by some that his voice is healing and puts the listener into an altered state of consciousness, closer to the creator.

Listening to it now.......2005-03-10
I just got this in yeterday along with 2 others i orderd. I absolutly love it. I have been a manson song for as long as i can remember and i love to hear there music portraid so well. Although there are some songs that i thought could have been added , i still love the songs they coverd.
No Title.......2004-02-27
This CD is pretty good, but, as has been said by quite a few people, the song choices could have been better. They should have just completely left out the PoaAF songs, as they don't go to strings well. "A Place in the Dirt" and "Speed of Pain" were great choices because they fit the style of the insturments playing the parts, "The Nobodies" and "Man That You Fear" may have been other selections they may have wanted to put on the CD. Other than that, the CD was fantastic.
its ok but............2003-10-08
i dont know, the idea of doing a string version of manson's greatest songs is a damn good idea. However, it was not pulled off as well as id hoped. when listening to these tracks, i always got the feeling that something was missing, while each song is tabbed to near perfection, the overall package still seemed kind of cheap.
i dont know if its the musician's fault, bad or equipment or just simply done intentionally, alot of the string insturements give off a scratchy tone while leading which does not sound good.
another complain is the choice of songs, some were great choices, but when leading mansons vocal parts, the melody becomes bland and makes you wish that that part was just taken out.
overall, lots of effort was put into this and it is good, but just feels like much more could have been done
My thought on the Cd.......2003-06-20
In this CD Marilyn Manson Portrays a different Image, I myself have been a Manson fan since the 7th grade, this CD gives his musci new meanings and shows he truly is an ecclectic Artist when he can take his area of hard gothic rock and transform it to this wonderful symphony. I highly consider all Manson Fans to purchase this Item.
Wonder-ful........2003-05-05
The album cover is very... stupid, to be blunt. It's really not what I think of when I think of these songs or Marilyn Manson but the string covers are excellent, despite the fact that these songs are probably the most repetitive or weakest choices they could have made excepting the 'Place In The Dirt' song. Most of them are overplayed and outplayed in concert, or done to death in live albums, dvds, vhs, or cover cds, well, here they are again! It doesn't breathe new life into songs that have lost their magic some years ago, but it's fun for awhile. There could easily have been more music or better selection. ...

Remembering Past Enchantments And Past Ills.......2004-06-07
Few composers outside of the classical canon have expressed the ineffable as beautifully as Ennio Morricone. The Italian Morricone, who has written scores of wildly varying quality for over 400 films, came to international prominence with and is still best - known in America for his "Spaghetti Western" scores of several classic Sergio Leone films of the Sixties, such as A Fistful of Dollars (1964), The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966), and Once Upon A Time In The West (1969).
With the Leone scores, Morricone created musical pieces structured like complex mathematical equations, many of which were suffused with a driving, hypnotic, and archetypal power. In fact, the soundtrack for The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly was so dramatically dynamic that it thoroughly outstripped the finished film in terms of imaginative potential. Only with Once Upon A Time In The West did Leone create a film well crafted and realized enough to match Morricone's entrancing, playful, and occasionally perditious score. Similarly, Dario Argento's The Bird With The Crystal Plumage (1969) almost completely failed to utilize Morricone's contribution, the best portions of which were heard only dimly and sporadically in the finished film. Leone's late masterpiece, Once Upon A Time In America (1984), two - thirds a perfect film, also failed to fully rise to the occasion of Morricone's simultaneously poignant, wistful, and wonderfully exuberant score.
Today, Morricone's work is available on literally hundreds of soundtracks and soundtrack compilations dedicated to the composer, very few of which are entirely satisfying. An Ennio Morricone Anthology (1995), which contains 45 tracks from 39 films produced in Italy from 1965 onward, perpetuates this frustrating tradition.
Of the 45 tracks, about a third represent Morricone realizing or approaching the height of his talent, another third are fairly interesting but ultimately repetitious and self-cannibalizing, and the final third, which may have worked reasonably well within the context of the films they were written for, never rise above the status of shrill, discordant, and bellowing kitsch (several attempt a Henry Mancini - like levity and fall flat). In fact, there is a great deal of healthy, raw, and leveling vulgarity even in some of Morricone's most famous compositions, such as "Le Vent, Le Cri" from 1981's The Professional and "Chi Mai" from 1971's Maddalena, both of which are included.
Those seeking haunting compositions on the scale of "L'Estasi Dell 'Oro" or "Il Triello" from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly or "Poverty" from Once Upon A Time In America will be disappointed to find very few pieces approaching their caliber here, especially if already familiar with such well - known pieces such as "Moscow Farewell" from the 1987 film of the same name or the otherworldly "Il Gatto A Nove Code" from The Cat O' Nine Tails (1971).
As compositions of vastly different quality are interspersed amongst one another in dizzying array, many may find An Ennio Morricone Anthology virtually impossible to listen to from beginning to end without skipping tracks repeatedly. As a genius whose greatest compositions address both the immanent and the transcendent, both perdition and salvation, both the archaic and the modern, Morricone and his admirers deserve a more carefully selected and thoughtfully produced anthology than this haphazard collection offers.
Delightful scores from Ennio Morricone.......1998-12-19
Few composers in film music today are as greatly admired as Ennio Morricone whose scores for a wide range of screen fares and many Oscar nominations and wins have attracted the attention of fans all over the world. This compilation is one of the best and contains very fine original musics and rare tracks of this Italian composer.

The lighter side of Drexciya.......2003-05-11
A suprisingly personal message in a bottle from the water warrior...
This album was the beginning of legendarily secretive Electro enigma Drexciya's opening to the outside world. As the album was planned as one of seven "storms" in a row (the others, all released on different labels due to the artist's "interdimensional wavejumping" capabilities, are Drexciya's "Harnessed The Storm" and "Grava 4", two Transllusion albums, a Shifted Phases album, and a Lab Rat XXL album that has not been and might never be released), one of the minds behind the band gave a series of personal interviews (including a talk with the wonderful Liz Copeland on WDET fm) on the new concept, and a big local newspaper published an article with previously unexpected personal details. Few months later James Marcel Stinson suffered a lethal heart attack and left a terrible gap in the music world.
"The Other People Place" stands out from the other "storms" and the artist's opus in general as the most friendly-minded work, phasing the hectic and anger of Drexciya into moody, sometimes slightly kinky daydreams of, simply and plainly, positive things like romance and enjoying sunshine.
It has nothing to do with dancefloor techno or trance the way most Americans outside Detroit know it, it hardly bears any inheritance from 80s cowbell Electro anymore, and has nothing to do with trip hop trends, either. Although the drum rhythms are "off the shelf" with the artist's repertoire, the pace is a bit slower, and with all the fluffy synth surroundings they get so sleepy and heavy at times that you'll almost automatically relax.
It's just hypnotic electronic music with a romantic mood and a bit of danceable kink, most souvereignly executed and at times emitting a kind of warmth otherwise only found in jazz. Whatever your age and way of life is, if that seems even a tiny bit interesting, buy this CD and hear for yourself.
People still make this stuff?.......2003-04-09
For starters, this is straight up repetitive techno. It is not inspiring, it is not interesting, it is not innovative, and it is not very atmospheric. Overall its boring tripe. Nothing here that hasn't been done before and I'm very dissapointed in Warp for releasing this, its almost a slap in the face after hearing Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Squarepusher. If you want some good decent techno, check out Juno Reactor or Speedy J.
If Starbucks Could Be Changed to a Rave Scene..........2001-09-26
A bit of a stretch yes...
The latest addition to the Warp label debuts with "Lifestyles of the Laptop Café" with their Detroit techno sound. Enough of that nonsense, time for my own words.
Each songs showcases their various traits, including a fascination with manipulated speech patterns to create... not quite a "MacinYorke" effect or even a Prefuse73 effect but just different. One could complain that it gets too repetitive for its own sake but after all, isn't all techno based on that incontrovertible fact?
I gave it four stars because I haven't given it enough time to let it grow and it's doesn't quite stand out compared to the other I have recently obtained (especially from Warp). But because it's from Warp, I'll definitely give it my high praise (after all I haven't heard a really bad Warp album).
If you want something off the beaten path, go for it.
