5 out of 5 stars Feel it in the one drop.......2005-02-22

This is a great compilation of songs that belong on Legend, so if you already own Legend you should probably get this. The songs here are from albums not included on Legend like Natty Dread, Survival and Rastaman Vibration. Those 3 albums are amoung Bob and the Wailers' best works and they should definitely be heard. The instrumentation here is just as good as on legend, and the songs here are fan and collector favorites so you will be sure to enoy them as well. I am glad that Natural Mystic has continued to help the legend live on, and if you like Legend get this cd and you will be well on your way to a fine Wailers collection.

5 out of 5 stars Mystic Marley !.......2004-11-28

Natural Mystic is by far one of the best Bob Marley collections, along with Legend & Songs of Freedom. Bob Marley fans certainly won't be dissappointed with Natural Mystic. Bob inspires us as he sings his songs of love, hope, peace, and freedom. The message is certainly clear and evident in each of these songs.

One can certainly see where Marley gets the title "King of Reggae" from as he chants down on songs like "Easy Skanking", "Iron Lion Zion" "Pimper's Paradise" "So Much Trouble in the World". Bob also does an awesome rendition of Curtis "the Pioneer" Mayfield's song "Keep on Movin." And last but certainly not least the heartfelt "Time Will Tell". This is a must have for all Marley fans both young and old. The Legend continues as our Natural Mystic's voice continues to echo.

Though the shell is gone, the spirit remains as the Legacy continues and the message remains the same. Bob, thank you for your Songs of Freedom. R.I.P., Our Lion from Zion!

5 out of 5 stars Truly timeless.......2004-02-06

I've owned this CD for some time, now and I'd have to agree that Bob Marley's music should be denied by no one. I pop it into my CD player in the car and at home and can't help but turn it up after the first couple of tracks play through. The music is mass-appealing and his voice is unmatched. If you don't own any of Marley's CD's yet this would be a great first, as is "Legend". It is a necessity for anyone who appreciates great music and lyrics that are fulfilling and passionate.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT COMPILATION.......2002-07-27

This is a great Bob Marley compilation. I would argue that it is as good a Legend and most certainly a great companion piece to that disc. It is more politidal but don't let that scare you. The songs go down so smoothly!

5 out of 5 stars splifferific!.......2001-06-27

This CD makes me want to dance when i hear. It has impacted me in so many ways like so much of his CDs. Who cares what kind of music you like this cd is for everyone! everyone would love this cd so get it! got it?

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation.......2007-02-07

I though I owned all the Halloween music to be found. But this one has some new ones and old ones done differently. I highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Good memories spoilt.......2006-12-27

The title of the CD is "Scary" but don't be fooled. The only thing frightening is that someone might be suckered by the reputation of the conductor and some fond childhood memories into spending good money for this crud.

While there are a couple of admirable tributes to classic horror theme songs, the cheesy vocals on Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Beware of the Blob and Thriller relegate this disc to the trash bin.

Instead of this, I'd recommend Nosferatu (James Bernard), Chiller (Cincinnati Pops), Fantastic Journey (Cincinnati Pops, also - more SciFi than horror, though) and Classics From the Crypt (RCA Victor). All available here.

4 out of 5 stars Superbly Bizarre.......2005-03-03

All I can say is wow- kitschy and delightful in a way. Though the "Thriller" is disturbing. But how can you deny the "Killer Tomatoes"? I mean, how can you??

There are so many ways to discover the genius of Leonard Bernstein, it's really a question of where to begin. Give a listen to his monumental Mahler cycle, or start with something easier to grasp, his definitive recordings of Copland? On the six-CD Lenny: The Legend Lives On, Deutsche Grammophon does its best to capture the conductor's finest from his last decade (1981-1990), giving us the added bonus of a previously unreleased recording of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17, with Lenny at the piano.

Not surprisingly, the set focuses on live material, but it begins on a somber note--Bernstein's final concert, recorded at Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Gone is the impassioned energy that marks Lenny's earlier conducting, but the tension and electricity here on Beethoven's Seventh are unmistakable. Other discs feature Bernstein at full strength. Just listen to his sublimely warm recording of Mozart's Great Mass in C minor (K. 427) with the Bavarian Radio Chorus, or his expressive take on Mahler's Fifth Symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic. You also get your fill of Americana--Lenny playing Rhapsody in Blue and, of course, conducting Appalachian Spring. These may lack the passion of his younger recordings for Sony, but they're still thoughtful, great performances. The bonus disc with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 and the Vienna Philharmonic is a special treat for Bernstein lovers. At times, the orchestra sounds a bit tentative, but Lenny is in fine form--slightly more subdued than on his earlier recording of the piece with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, but still plenty playful. Any way you look at it, this is an incredible bargain for this much music and a wonderful introduction to the conducting great. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars Great collection from a great conductor.......2005-04-01

This collection is a jewel, I cannot believe this price for such a great music.
The Symphony No. 7 sounds majestic in the last concert, the 4 Sea interludes from Britten are beatiful, The Mozart Mass in C minor its full of Lenny energy, and Rhapsody in Blue where Bernstein plays and conduct is sublime
All the recording are live, and you can feel the energy that Lenny past to you from the music

4 out of 5 stars Interesting album.......2000-09-22

Hey..he was from P.I.L.? (I was just reading the last review). Anyway..i cant give it 5 stars. The album is sloppy, singing is pretty weak...but yes, you have a fusion of many different styles with unnuque bass playing throughout.

Blueberry Hill is the wackiest and most interesting version Ive heard.

Obviously, Jah Wobble has talent, working with the likes of Eno, ex-Can memberds, P.I.L, B.A.D., and the whole Laswell thing happening in his later career...and im probably missing something here..not noiing too much about him.

Dubheads will enjoy the bass dub stylings on this unique album.

Betrayal, arguably, is the week track...so sample perhaps Blueberry.

Of course..lotsa deep bass.

5 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL!!!!.......1999-08-21

If you liked Public Image Ltd. when they were good (with Keith Levene & Jah Wobble)..but thought they could be a little more "out there" and perhaps more "cheerful and fun" without John Lydon's insistant whine..this album is for you..a document of when punk/dub/experimental/pop stuff meshed into one...this album is a complete listening experience..and what a joy it is..all the tracks are highlights..especially "pineapple," "today is the first day.." "betrayal," "dan mcarthur," and the HILARIOUS "dreak lock don't deal in wedlock" with don letts of Big Audio Dynamite fame..BUT IT NOW..It's priced to sell like hotcakes!

5 out of 5 stars Gone, But Not Forgotten.......2006-07-27

I had the privelige of seeing Starz when they were first on the rise. A beautiful pre-spring day in March 1977,'Cherry Baby' was starting to get noticed, and I had third row seats to Starz as the opening band to Bob Seger on the 'Night Moves' tour. Starz came on at 8:00, opening with 'Violation' blew our minds, eyes and ears for the next hour and a half, and I feel they could have kept going if not for the fact that drummer Joe Dube collapsed on his drums and had to be carried off the stage in what was the only disappointing moment of the evening. This band had something that most people were not able to fully appreciate....THEY CAME TO ROCK!!!!! No fancy light shows or special effects, just being great for who they were and how they sounded---a band that was not given the time or attention they deserved.

5 out of 5 stars A Blast From the Past.......2002-01-16

I have been raised on rock. When Starz came out in the mid 70's, it was a breath of fresh air. These boys rock. For anybody who doesn't really knows this band, the have the ... to roll a 4 track recorder with them and record their live show, then put it out as an album. That takes guts. This album represents some of their finer songs. Although there really isn't any song they have done I have disliked... Get the CD and see for yourself. "GOTTA ROCK 6 TIMES ALRIGHT!

5 out of 5 stars live with styx and frampton.......2001-03-22

I saw Starz live with Styx and Peter Frampton a few months before Frampton made it big in the mid-70s. I hoped that Starz would make it big, but Styx made it bigger. Oh well, anyway its a pleasant high school memory from the 70s.

5 out of 5 stars Starz Rocks Live..The Old Fashioned Way..........2000-10-05

This CD is a great compilation of Starz early rock tunes...Pull The Plug is a mesmorizing live tune, much like Cheap Trick's "Need Your Love". Boys In Action, Subway Terror, Live Wire, Cherry Baby and the rest are solid amped rockers that make this one terrific purchase! For even more, the "Brightest Starz Anthology" has all the great material from the studio, that rocks every bit as much as the live CD (Amazon just delivered mine today...It's now available) If you're a fan, buy these CDs. If you like to rock... these deliver! SJ from So. Cal.

5 out of 5 stars Starz Rocks Live, and finally on CD!.......2000-09-30

After recording my albums to cassette, I thought I'd never be able to hear Starz on CD. This CD has top quality sound, and the song selections are excellent. These underated rockers deserve to be heard. When the anthology CD is available, I will be at the head of the line. Great memories have been rekindled thanks to this CD. If you like rock at it's roots, buy this CD!

In April 1997 some of bluegrass music's greatest names (including Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, the Del McCoury Band) gathered at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to remember Bill Monroe, the music he made, and the genre he all but single-handedly spawned. This double-CD set captures 28 songs performed live that evening, including such standouts as Skaggs's renditions of "Uncle Pen" and "Get Up John"; Tim O'Brien's impassioned "Workin' on a Building"; the Del McCoury Band's "John Henry," where McCoury's tenor is as tense and charged as a high-voltage wire; and Stanley's "Can't You Hear Me Callin'," featuring vocal harmony so high and piercing it'll make you shiver. The producers might have fared better paring the program down to one 14-song disc, since too many average moments dilute the impact. But the album retains a certain poignancy in two songs from the late John Hartford, one of which, "Cross-Eyed Child," traces the pain of the disfigurement that led to Monroe's mournful music, and in Marty Stuart's version of the traditional "Rabbit in the Log," a woeful reminder of the hardscrabble Southern upbringing that so many of Monroe's contemporaries endured. This is not the ultimate tribute to the Father of Bluegrass, but it's a gift anyway. --Alanna Nash

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars + 1/2 stars...An All-Star Tribute to the Father of Bluegrass.......2004-11-10

It took nearly six years for this all-star tribute to the father of bluegrass music to get released, but it was worth the wait. In April of 1997, some of the brightest stars of bluegrass music shared the state at the Ryman auditorium to celebrate the music of Bill Monroe. Disc one kicks off with Ricky Skaggs leading his band through Monroe's classic "Uncle Pen" and it doesn't end until the group sing-a-long on the gospel "I'll Fly Away," which closes out disc two.

In between is 90 minutes of classic bluegrass music. Highlights are numerous, but personal favorites include the Del McCoury Band's "John Henry," Ralph Stanley's "Can't You Hear Me Callin'," Tim O'Brien's "Highway of Sorrow," Marty Stuart's "Rabbit in the Log" and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder's "Get Up John." Especially heartwarming are the two tracks contributed by John Hartford, "Little Cabin on the Hill" and "Cross Eyed Child," the latter includes spoken reminiscences of Bill Monroe throughout the song. Overall, this is a fitting--and loving--tribute. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

4 out of 5 stars Tribute does well.......2003-05-14

I bought this CD after having seen a spectacular "tribute to blue grass" produced by Ricky Skaggs et al on Public Television this spring. I have enjoyed this CD. At the moment, it's one of the CD's I reach for first.
I haven't bought much bluegrass in the past (Alison Kraus and a few others aside), but this CD has inspired me to increase my collection of some of the famous artists on this CD.
