Customer Reviews:
Wow George, thanks for the info.......2006-03-17
My husband and I listen to Ron at Porky's every Thursday night. We feel SO fortunate to have such an awesome talent in Fresno. Thank you for your review and making us aware that Ron is not receiving any royalties. He is such a hard working musician. This is SO wrong!
RAW RON .......2006-02-24
These cuts are RAW RON THOMPSON...years known as a MAGIC SAM recording but was clearly not...if you know Ron's sound you will know....the only problem with this album is RON DID NOT MAKE A DIME ON IT...NO ROYALTIES....so in other words this is an unauthorized BOOTLEG of Ron's recordings. How do I know this? I bought this cd and took it to him tonight (2/23/06) to get him to autograph it. He said he would not...it IS HIM on the cd...but HE GOT NOTHING FOR IT and HE DID NOT AUTHORIZE IT...and HE RECEIVED NO ROYALTIES or license fees for its release...so while its cool to get these songs by Ron...I AM AGAINST IT if Ron does not get paid for it.

Customer Reviews:
Works as a Novelty Album but Not Worth the $20.......2006-05-31
I love Freddie King and as a guitar players he is one of my heroes. This is an all instrumental album that is not from Freddie Kings peak. The guitar work is nice but really does not give King the recognition he deserves for his genius. I order this album, paid $20, and waited for about two months to get it and in all honesty was really disappointed. If your looking for the true genius of Freddie King get his later albums or Smokey Smothers album Back Porch Blues on which Freddie plays lead guitar but does not sing. I don't mean that you should not buy this album if you are a Freddie King fan but if this is your introduction do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
Hey Luke- You got the wrong King!.......2005-06-16
Luke- sorry man you got the wrong King- SRV's "biggest" influence? I think you are talking about Albert King. Nevertheless- Just Pickin' is awesome man...
Freddie King Is One Of The Greatest................................2004-11-19
Freddie King's Just Pickin' is the fundamental for any blues guitarist to learn, and cherish. I just came across a copy and was so excited to here his music from both of his instrumental albums. Freddie King was Stevie Ray Vaughan biggest influence he got all of his material from most of this stuff including Hide Away, and Sen-Sa-Shun. Any blues guitarist should pick up this copy right away and learn the best way to expand your notation as a musician this is the very best!!! Im gonna Highly Recomend this one to anybody wanting to here a pure guitar genius, he is one of the greatest!
Master of the Blues Guitar.......2002-09-26
Absolutely stunning collection of Freddie King's two instrumental albums from the early sixties. All the favorites are here (Hideaway, The Stumble, San-Ho-Say, etc.). A cram course for aspiring blues guitarists. In impecable stereo for the first time.
The "Holy Grail" of blues guitar.......2001-02-14
I was looking for the song "Remington Ride" when I stumbled across this CD last week. My motivation is that I am learning blues guitar (at the tender age of 40-something) and the name Freddie King is one I have been hearing about for some time. Little did I know that I had found a "blueprint" (pardon the pun) for learning the blues. This disk is packed with some of the best blues licks imaginable, starting with the much covered Hideaway. Whether you're a blues purist or a newcomer to Freddie King, like I am, this is one for your collection.
