During his 15 years with the Bluegrass Cardinals, Parmley gained the reputation as one of the best singers in the field. On his second album, he applies that voice to contemporary songs by Nashville songwriters with a taste for mountain traditions--Carl Jackson, Kevin Welch, Jamie O'Hara, Larry Cordle and Jim Rushing. The arrangements are bluegrass (acoustic string band with no drums for the most part) and the mix of old and new flavors is similar to the alchemy practiced by Krauss and Ricky Skaggs. Adam Steffey and Dan Tyminski from Krauss' band and fiddler Stuart Duncan from the Nashville Bluegrass Band help out. --Geoffrey Himes

beautiful music.......2000-08-04
For some reason I did not hear of the Harmonizing Four prior to listening to this CD. The music is great, and the singing is so smooth. They prefer the soft harmony style to the rough ecstatic style of The Blind Boys, but they can also get rough and they do everything with amazing taste and musicianship. From the first song - I Love The Lord, and thoughout, this is my kind of soulful music that is so rarely heard these days.

Another Outlaw CD.......2000-04-28
This CD is worth owning because of the inclusion of previously unavailable digitial recordings of Rebel Girl and All Roads. The CD is still a bit "no frills". All of the tracks are available on other Outlaw compilation CD's except the two aforementioned tunes. The CD does not include any out-take demos or information about lyrics, recording information, or file photos. Hope that sometime in the future, the surviving Outlaws can collaborate on a cumulative Box-Set that includes rare demos, alternate takes, and cuts from In The Eye Of The Storm, Soldiers of Fortune, and Playing To Win. For listeners that have never been exposed to the sweet yet powerful guitar and vocal harmonies of the Outlaws, this CD is a gem.
MORE OUTLAWS ON CD!.......2000-02-13
outlaws are the best southern rock band ever, period.the only problem with compiles is that there are not enough songs on them! as for this cd, the tracks are correct but instead of 'back from eternity' the track is actually 'all roads' from 'los hombres malo', and there are NO live tracks(i hate live tracks of songs that werent released live to begin with like on 38 specials flashback) as listed on the liner notes.all i can say is that i hope someone will release a boxed set of 'playin to win', eye of the storm' and 'los hombres'.i am am also irritated that several tracks are available on several different cds already, so unreleased alternate choices would be much appreciated. how many different cds do i really need with 'green grass and high tides' on it? anyway, i HIGHLY recommend this recording just for the two previously unavailable tracks 'all roads' and 'rebel girl'. southern rock on!

A Must Have for David Parmley Fans.......2003-07-24
This is a must have CD for fans of David Parmley. David has assembled some of the best players for this project including Dan Tyminski, Craig Smith, and Stuart Duncan, to name a few. He handles all songs impeccably, from the more traditional songs to the newer country tunes such as "Poor Man's Paradise." Anyone who loves great music needs this album. Highly reccomended!
