What listeners can expect to hear is this forgotten thing called "rock n' roll".
Product Description
Buffalo Creek's first full length audio offering, Signal to Noise represents over two years of writing, arranging, recording and producing by all of the band's current line-up of Bryn Loosley, Marc Stafford, Nick Bearden, August Germar and Ryan O'Donovan.
Recorded in two studios in the band's hometown of Chico, California, the album is a testament to the tenacity of the musicians involved. Six months into the recording process when the entire album was near completion, all tracks and files for the album were lost in a hard drive failure and the band was forced to re-record the entire album from scratch.
"I'm glad we had the opportunity to do it again, the result is a highly polished album were all really proud of," said drummer Nick Bearden.
Compared to the "California Soul Sound", fans of The Mother Hips, Jackpot, Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, Sonvolt, Neil Young, Wilco, The Jayhawks, and others of the likes will definitely not be dissapointed in what Buffalo Creek delivers in "Signal to Noise".
Buffalo Creek's first full-length album Signal to Noise is a rare resurgence of good old rock n' roll. This long-awaited release, with Bryn Loosley's bittersweet lyrics of love lost, layered on top of tuneful melodies and well-orchestrated musicianship, has a quality that makes getting these tracks stuck in your head a good thing. Entwined is a return to rock's roots, including sounds of folk, blues and even some jazzy keys. Though often country-esque ("Firecracker," "Shopping Cart"), inventive guitar licks and drum riffs occasionally change it up to something almost funky ("Delta Breeze," "Cry"). But regardless of its sense of all-inclusiveness, Signal to Noise is more importantly a nostalgic return to a purer rock n' roll. The end result of this careful composition is not simply just a collection of songs, but an undivided experience. - David P. Brown

Very Pleased.......2006-11-05
I've loved White Willow from the first note I heard. And I am proud to say that this album doesn't change that. I didn't like "Storm Season," as much as all the other albums. It explored a little darker and heavier side of the band, which was nice for something different, but the heaviness and more aggressive singing didn't feel natural for the band. I'm glad they didn't go farther into that direction. This album gets away from that a little and revisits their more melodic side, although some aggressiveness still lingering especially in the first track, "Night Surf."
The Instrumentation includes many Keyboards, mellotrons, and mini-moogs as usual, also some woodwinds, and grand piano. Now to be completely honest, I had no idea there was a new vocalist until I saw it mentioned. Trude Eidtang has as wonderful a voice as Sylvia Erichsen, not to mention they sound quite similar.
On every one of their albums there has been at least one song that is especially enchanting, something out of this world, something while listening you wonder just how they possibly came up with something so brilliant. On this album, originally, I believed that song was "Splinters." This is a softer song for the most part, with a slightly heavier chorus; the vocal melodies pierce through the soft keyboard melodies and send chills down your spine.
After a month or so of many listens, "Joyride" seems like the best song here. The title is very fitting, because from the first instant, this is one of the most Joyful tunes I have ever heard. It really is a Joyride. "The Dark Road" is probably my third favorite song, similarly brimming with enormously blissful harmonies, except it is slower paced.
Like I said, I'm very pleased with this album especially after the previous one. If you like White Willow be sure to check out Paatos, Pineforest Crunch, and Anglagard.
Superb.......2006-10-04
I was a little concerned when I heard White Willow had lost its female vocalist and gotten another.
I am glad to say my fears were unfounded.
Their new female vocalist is wonderful.
And this album is wonderful, too.
I like it even better than their last (Storm Season) because it is not QUITE so far toward the metal end of the spectrum.
They have incorporated SOME metal, but mostly they have reverted to their earlier, and folkier, and more classical (and better) stuff.
Exceptionally wonderful prog rock: melodic, varied, unexpected, beautifully constructed, involving.

Different.......2003-12-26
Not metal. Not indie rock. Not emo. Not punk rock. No genre could be used to describe this band exclusively. Influenced from each other? Yes, but not as a whole. Any band that can offer a sense of salvation to anyone, no matter what amount, is worth a listen. So here is what we offer: The Rise. They play with a style that is, on a very basic level, hardcore. This could be classified as punk-core. It's definately different, but still great. Put The Dingees + Transplants + Minor Threat= The Rise. That's all I can say. An Automated Response If You Will is the best song on the entire CD. This is a definate must have. It's got hardcore, punk, rap, and straitedge all mixed up and put out into probably the most original record I've heard in a while. A must have!
Hard to the Core.......2002-07-07
If your tired of hearing self absorbed, whiny pop metal The Rise is for you. Uncovering new ground in Post Hardcore, these guys have a message that incorporates intense guitar parts, intricatly place electronica and lyrics that are just as intense. They throw alot at you at once and expect you to keep up, thats what makes the album one that never gets old. Something new everytime you listin is why Signal to Noise wont leave your Cd player.
Some of the best original music in years.......2002-07-07
I heard about these guys from a friend of mine in San Marcos Tx, who had seen them play a show at his school. He brought their cd down for me to listen to. Their mix of electronica and hardcore and their lyrics were very original. If these guys don't make it big in the next year to year and a half I've lost all hope for music.
modern and origional power and agression.......2002-04-20
One of the best things about this album is it does not follow the current mold of the hard rock, metal, and hard core scene. It explodes with a type of power Iv yet to see in many new bands. Rise mixes hard core with a bit of an industrial or techno feel. Even the Rise's vocalist has a scream that is a fresh cup of water in the bland world of aggressive hard core. Much unlike other hard core bands like Poison The Well or Dillinger Escape Plan. When you here the sound all strung together for the first time, your gonna want to keep your finger on the play back button to here it again. Its that good. The whole album is mixed and flown together perfectly, and is far from predictable. So if you want to pick up a great cd from a band who's sound is almost impossible to define, buy this. Or you can just return to the bland world of "pop" new metal. Fans of the new original sounds (like this) separates the people with true music taste from the norm.

THE THRILL OF DECAY.......2005-08-23
The distance between most musical forms isn't really such a great one: in music the illusion of change is often more profound than the change in music itself. If you've wondered what the real sea change in music might sound like, you need to spend some time with the likes of Robert Henke.
"Signal to Noise" is a defining accomplishment in its approach, execution and aesthetic sensibility. Preoccupied almost completely with signal processing and reprocessing -- Henke refers to his technique here as granular resynthesis -- Parts I and II of "Signal to Noise" display some remarkable musical results. By occasionally allowing the source material to surface Henke creates a shift in the listener's perception. Comprehended not so much as a "petit mort", but more like a small and gentle stroke, your perception of what's going on changes. And thanks to the care given this work you will know when the source material surfaces: it emerges in a distinctly recognizable way, not like some other sound lumped on top of another soundscape. Which is to say that there is a more keenly detectable set of goals about this music that sets it far apart from the vast body of drone ambient that's out there.
"Studies for Thunder" is literally that: synthetically created electrical storms. The metaphor is clear enough, but the piece sits a bit uncomfortably between environmental recording and electronic music simply because the calibre of finish Henke brings to this will leave most casual listeners thinking that they are in fact listening to a skilled phonographer's field recording. While the first two pieces are genuinely musical accomplishments, "Studies for Thunder" seems like a little bit of technological sleight-of-hand.
That nit aside, Henke's work here points to something new and entirely worth your attention.

A new gem in my collection.......2005-07-29
When I first heard Buffalo Creek, it reminded me of the first time I heard Wilco's Summerteeth. It's catchy lyrics and light hearted organ licks make you want to roll down your car windows and play it loud on a sunny day. This is a great CD!
Product Description
This is the sophmore release of the progressive band from Nashville, Tn. The bar has definitely been raised on this one. For fans of Dream Theater, Rush, Queensryche and more. Highly Recommended!!!

High-energy modern rock.......2007-07-06
Dead Air Radio hail from Tennessee and the lineup on this, their second release is: Bill Givens and Dennis Thompson guitars and David Charlesworth drums. Bill also handles vocals, bass, and does some synth programming. The music is mainly hard rock with emphasis on grooves, plenty of guitar solos, but there are some wicked cool instrumental changes where the band lets loose and they really kick it during these moments. I hear subtle influences of bands such as Freak Kitchen, Dream Theater, Eric Johnson, and it is noticeable, but their music is not a copy of anyone. The vocals are piercing at times, but never are they annoying and they fit the style of music well, so if you need a fix of good hard rock check this out.
