Customer Reviews:
A MASTERPIECE! JOAN MORRIS AT HER PEAK!.......2000-04-30
No singer can match Joan Morris's vocal and interpretive skills. Her phrasing and timing are impeccable! She can take a song you've heard a million times (by others) and make it breathtakingly unforgettable. Examples on this disc include "Always," "Bill," "Let's Do It" and - my favorite - "On the Banks of the Wabash." And William Bolcom's lilting piano composition, "Graceful Ghost," written in his father's memory, will knock your socks off!
In short, treat yourself to this CD!

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (March 1949 - August 1949): Vol. IV

Out of print, but still review worthy.......2003-05-14
This included session recordings such as "Wedding Bells", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "A House Without Love" and others.
It also debuted non-session demo recordings of "If You'll Be A Baby To Me" and "We're Gettin' Closer To The Grave Each Day".
It also debuted the start of fabricating stories about what Hank material was available and what wasn't. If memory serves me correct, Colin Escott and Nick Tosches were the contributing
writers to the liner notes and express excitement over the undubbed take of "Fool About You". It was the highlight of that particular set if not the whole series. It was presumed lost for many years and they were so depressed and crying that it was lost and everything-I think they had to get medication for depression or something it hurt them so bad! Well, as Gomer Pyle would say "Suuuurprise, Suuuurprise, Suuuurprise", this take had already been presented in England on what was called a "Collector's LP" (Vol.3-Lost Highway where they debuted the US release of "No, Not Now") that was released on Polygram Records in 1976! It had also been issued domestically on the Country Music Foundation release "Just Me & My Guitar" (later joined with the CMF release "The First Recordings" to become "Rare Demos:First to Last") well before this release ("Just Me & My Guitar" was advertised in 1984 in Polygram's first release of this series "I Ain't Got Nothin' But Time").
Another instance of the label's sub-standard treatment is found in "You Better Keep It On Your Mind". The undubbed take appeared on the aforementioned CMF release already, but Polygram
chose to extend us the overdubbed version as well as overdubbed versions of "A House of Gold" and "How Can You Refuse Him Now" that made their way undubbed a couple of CD's later on "Let's Turn Back The Years".
If you can find this used, you'll want it for the song "A Temple In Heaven" which doesn't appear on "Complete Hank".
Don't feel bad about buying this if it's in the bargain bin!
