When I first received this CD in the mail, I had very high hopes. I had the stereo Mercury LPs which these titles first appeared on. However, over the years they wore out and I was looking to replace some of the songs with digital copies. When I finally put this CD in my player, to say I was extremely disappointed would be an understatement. This has got to be, without a doubt, the most horrendous attempt at mastering for CD release I have EVER encountered. The folks who put this out should be ashamed of themselves!! What a way to treat one of the truly great stylists in the history of country music!! A real shame- -and a sham!!

It was some time ago now, but as I am a Faron Young fan, I took well-preserved vinyls of my favorites which turned up on this product later, along with some of Faron's earlier works, and recorded them onto a cassette (my own version of his greatest hits). Having no sophisticated recording equipment at the time, I recorded them with an open microphone. Today, they still sound better on my tape player than they do on the compilation here (I never burned a CD). Even so, I question the quality of Mercury's original recordings. "Yellow Bandana", "She Went a Little Bit Farther" and "It's Four in the Morning" evoke special memories for me. They deserve a better presentation, a "do over" maybe.

This package includes all of Faron Young's Top 10 Mercury Hits and most of his bigger hits for the label.

Now some bad news up front. Like the previous reviewer, I must complain about the sound. It does sound like some of these cuts were taken off 3rd and 4th generation masters. For such an important compiliation, that is unexusable. More bad news, no recording data. At least a listing of the dates by the songs would have been appreciated.

But on the other hand, I guess this is better than nothing!!! The songs are all original recordings. The booklet is very imformative, and like I said, the only thing missing is the recording data.

This import features most of the biggest hits of Farons Mercury years. The original recordings are here but the sound quality could be better as they sound like they may have come off from 2nd or 3rd generation tapes which gives some the songs a slight muddy sound. Most of these songs are hard to find on CD so buy it until something better comes along. Faron Young was one of true Country Giants of his time.

Eric Marienthal is one of the best (and most underrated) sax players of our time. This album showcases more of his smooth jazz genres, however, believe it!!!---he can play anything! Seeing him play live, his artistry is varied, spontaneous & soulful.

"Work Song" is perfection with a little help from the talented Chris Botti on trumpet. Eric's version of "Skylark" is deep, moody, and magical. The acoustical arrangement is so gorgeous. "Imagine That" which was co-written by Eric and his keyboard player Rob Mullins is very fine indeed! Rob's keyboards have an almost "Bob James" feeling, yet are truly his own. "Here In My Heart" another orignal song written by Rob Mullins has a light Latin feel. Check out Michael Thompson's addition on guitar. "Country Preacher" is haunting but very sweet and tender. "Unit 7" features Eric smouldering on sax, plus the talented Stanley Clarke on bass, and Lee Ritenour cooking on guitar. "Groove Runner" is something soulful with Eric on sax, Jeff Lorber on drum, base, and keyboards, plus Michael Thompson on guitar. I defy you not to be impressed with what you will hear!!!!

If you think you haven't heard Eric Marienthal, check out some of this work on albums from Chick Corea, David Benoit, The Rippingtons, Keiko Matsui, Toni Tennille, John Tesh, and George Kahn. This album, produced with inspiration, is a gem!

If you like Cannonball Adderley DO NOT get this disc. This album is "background music." It's amazing Eric M. can invert the spirit of Cannonball's playing so thoroughly. I just can't believe what he did to "Work Song." Does he even know what that song is about? This album is an insulting and soul-less take on soul-ful music.

For people who listen to the weather station and get swept up in the emotion of the background "muzak," knock yourselves out... seriously... when you wake up you might suddenly realize, "You know what, this muzak truly has no substance. It's kind of like a caramel apple without the apple..."

I've been wearing this CD out for a long time. I've also been a Marienthal fan for a long time -- he's a guy who's been paying his dues in the world of music. The first three cuts alone -- "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," "Work Song," and "Walk Tall" -- along with the fifth cut, "Imagine That," are worth the effort of getting this recording. This tribute is genuinely rewarding. Opinionated ultra-"purists" may quibble or disagree, but Marienthal has genuinely done an excellent job of infusing unexpected and astonishing new life and vigor into these great Cannonball Adderley pieces. If you are really devoted to the saxophone, and you haven't yet heard Eric on the horn with the legacy of Cannonball, then you're really going to have a moment of revelation with this one. Absolutely nothing will distract you from this recording. Imagine that!

I bet Cannonball Adderly would enjoy sitting back and taking this in. It's a great collection of classics, recorded with state-of-the-art technology, but with an appreciation for the purity of the original work. Marienthal is faithful to the source and adds his own love of Adderley's work to make this a gem in anyone's jazz collection.

What were classic jazz recordings done by the late great Cannonball Adderly have been turned into sickly sweet pop renditions. Get out your [...] on this one! Cannonball had a rich beautiful tone as opposed to Marienthal's tone which sounds something like a fart through wax paper.

    Knowing Bradley as a gitarist for Iian Matthews and Lorrie as a singer from a couple years back. I learned that they made this album and bought it. Guys this is really great. Non commercial but for music fans a brilliant album. From the firt number you get in an ambiance you play this album over and over agian. Great. Must have.

      I had come across Treniti last year and neglected to purchase the CD. I have now purchased it and it makes constant returns to my cd player! Her voice is similar to some of the big ladies of R&B of today but diverse enough to stand out. I'd recomend her to anyone who likes Toni, Beyonce etc.
