After the success of From Under the Cork Tree, Fall Out Boy earned the right to indulge their whims. Fortunately, their instincts tend to serve them well (not counting those infamous cell-phone photos). On their most adventurous album, Def Jam prez Jay-Z introduces "Thriller," while Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds produces groove-heavy hit "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs." A few new flourishes aside, however, like guitarist Joe Trohman's Metallica moves on "Thriller," the Chicago-bred band remains true to their punk-pop roots, even if vocalist Patrick Stump sounds like Mr. Sexyback on "This Ain't a Scene" and "I'm like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me + You)." You can thank bass player/songwriter Pete Wentz for the unwieldy song titles. As he explains in "Fame
< Infamy," "I am God's gift / Why would he bless me with such wit without a conscience." Whether spicing up their recipe with R&B swagger or playing it straight, FOB are at their best when they crank up the volume. Hence, the piano-based "Golden" is the weakest track on an otherwise solid outing. Hey, maybe they just wanted to see what a stadium looks like bathed in the glow of a thousand lighters. Taking its title from a letter Vincent Van Gogh sent to his brother Theo ("Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high"), Fall Out Boy's fourth seems likely to follow its predecessor into the platinum stratosphere. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

To Infinity and Beyond.......2007-07-10
The follow-up to Fall Out Boy's breakout "From Under the Cork Tree" finds them infused with a new-found confidence and an arena rock cockiness. Fortunately for them, they manage to aim for the Stadium Nose-Bleed seats and succeed. From the opening braggadocio of their label Prez Jay-Z to the funky beats that undercoat "I'm Like A Lawyer..." (produced by none other than Babyface Edmonds) to quoting Leonard Cohen in "Hum Hallelujah," Pete Wentz shows he and his mates have no intention of playing it passive.
They also come up with hooks a-plenty. The slapping drum and bass that kicks "The Take Over The Breaks Over" is irresistible. The hit "This Ain't A Scene It's An Arms Race" will have you football cheering and stamping your feet in no time flat. There are so many memorable moments on this CD that pointing them out is beyond the point...they just craft themselves elegantly into each song. The Choir in "You're Breaking But You're No Wave" is probably my personal favorite.
Be that as it may, there are times when the band teeters close to smart-aleky. Especially the unwieldy song titles and frequent self-referencing. There is a touch of the clever-clever here that makes me wonder if the band can transcend "being poster boys for the scene" (as they sing in "Thriller") in the way My Chemical Romance did on "The Black Parade." But for the 14 catchy rocking tunes on "Infinity On High," Fall Out Boy show that they are hungry for more.
Besides, any band that can work both The Simpsons and Vincent VanGogh into their overall view is OK by me.

Just buy the singles that you like on the radio. This album is crap. I dont know why they put JayZ in there and most of the critical reviews on amazon pretty much summed it up. I really believe some people are frocing themselves to like this album.
Sellouts?....No. Dissapeared off the radar?....uh no. Follow up to a great debut?....Yes!.......2007-07-03
What can I say? I love this album to death! I've been a FOB fan since early 2005. Now that's not reeeeally a long time, since that's when they kinda started to get noticed. I wish I was there from the start, but personally, if you didn't live in the Greater Chicago area, I think maybe that would have been a bit hard. (Hey. I might be TOTALLY wrong).
Anyway. Great hooks, Great melodies, Great lyrics (which don't really have a "plot" or "story" to 'em, but hey who cares!). One million out of ten. And will ALWAYS be in my top 3 albums ever.

Fall Out Boy are an alternative punk rock group, if ever they could be classified, and their latest CD "Infinity on high" has already topped the Billboard album charts. The album comprises 14 songs with ambitious titles, averaging 3 minutes each.
Opening with an introduction from Jay Z (yes) as well as on outro, opening cut "Thriller" is an energetic number with machine gun-like guitars.
"The take over, the break's over" is a catchy upbeat song, while lead off single (and US & UK #2 hit) "This aint a scene, it's an arms race" - one of those rare FOB cuts to feature the song title in the song - shifts tempo from plodding to frenetic. It is produced by Babyface, as is "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" (great jangly guitars).
Other standouts are the hand clap filled "Don't you know who I think I am", the more downtempo "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)", "The (after) life of the party", "The carpal tunnel of love", the sing-a-long "Bang the doldrums" (which is remniscent in parts of The Smiths), and wickedly catchy "Fame infamy" which seems to race at the speed of light.
"You're Crashing, But You're No Wave" is a Killers/Franz Ferdinand-like rocker with lyrics telling the story of a court case. Brilliant!!
Lead singer Patrick Stump, has an earthy, soulful voice, sometimes remniscent of Terence Trent D'arby.
Like the voice says at the end of the disc, "Now, press repeat!"

There are worse things in life than making your acting debut on the much ballyhooed season finale of Ally McBeal, though teen operatic baritone Josh Groban doesn't seem destined to encounter them anytime soon. As the awkward high school student-client who asks the typically romance-jinxed Ally to his senior prom, Groban performed this debut album's "You're Still You" (adapted from film-composing legend Ennio Morricone's Academy Award-nominated score for Malèna, with lyrics by Linda Thompson) as a heart-tugging, literal showstopper. The young phenom was just 17 when veteran producer-writer David Foster tapped him to fill in for Andrea Bocelli at rehearsals for the 1999 Grammys, where Groban found himself suddenly dueting with Celine Dion.
Indeed, such were his fortunes that the young Foster protégé was forced to drop out of Carnegie Mellon when professional commitments--including this record--interfered. And if this collection tends to hew sometimes uncomfortably close to Foster's own MOR sonic instincts, the material offers enough challenges to display Groban's talent and the potential of his warm, mature voice: a lyrical take on another Morricone classic, "Cinema Paradiso"; melancholy readings of Don McLean's "Starry, Starry Night" and Albert Hammond's "Alejate"; masterfully dramatic takes of the Neapolitan "Alla Luca Del Sole" and "Canto Alla Vita," the latter featuring the Corrs. Many of Groban's performances here, including a neo prog-rock-opera take on Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (with Lili Haydn), seem both bigger and bolder than their precious musical frameworks, a telling hint that Grand Opera can't be far from his grasp. As said earlier, there are worse things in life. --Jerry McCulley

What a voice, what an artist, what a man.
Underestimated in Europe. His concert on 21 May 2007 in Amsterdam was superb!
Oh my Gosh, Josh!.......2007-07-03
I love Josh Groban's music! It is romantic, mellow and beautiful :)
This CD has two songs on it that are very unusual. I believe both are from Cirque de Soleil, and draw you into the music--warning-- While driving, do not close your eyes!
a true star.......2007-06-24
First saw and heard Josh on the Tv and was blown away by his talent! it was about a year later that I found out who he was and bought the first album and can honestly say that I have never tired of his work. Every song is magical and he is truely wonderful. Have since purchased all his work and have also had the priviledge of seeing him live in concert in Glasgow/Scotland and was amazed. such a talented young man with a truely magical voice
Floodgates of the Heart.......2007-06-05
This CD played almost constantly in my wife's car for several years. Josh Groban's voice is so gentle and can go from gentleness to anthematic, almost operatic, textures. He sings in Italian effortlessly. The orchestration on "Cinema Paradiso" is enthralling with its emotional reach, powerful even with lyrics beyond my understanding. "To Where You Are" is one of the most gorgeous songs. Knowing how it moved my wife in the years before breast cancer proved stronger than her body, it touches me now, "Fly me up to where you are beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight to see you smile, if only for awhile to know you're there; a breath a ways to where you are." The song opens the floodgates of my heart. The Corrs were on Groban's 143 label when this release came out in 2001 and join him on the upbeat "Canto Alla Vita." Groban makes an interesting selection with Don McLean's "Vincent," polishing the melody to a fine sheen in ways that surpassed the original. Listening to Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" is like being in a sonic cathedral with Groban's voice matching the grandeur of the music. With Charlotte Church on "The Prayer," Groban concludes the set with the Carole Bayer Sager/David Foster composition that makes one contemplate the eternal, "Lead us to a place, find us with your grace, give us faith so we'll be safe." Groban's first CD enhances with repeated listening by virtue of the depth of musicianship and performance. I listen to it now hearing the music that moved the one I love to tears. It does the same for me. I hope it touches you too. Bravo!
Disappointing..........2007-05-31
Each song he sings is special with his voice...but this CD is disjointed and grasping. Couldn'the producers put together a cohesive CD that flowed from one song to the other? This is my first Josh CD and quite frankly I'll need to think twice before purchasing a second.

This is not the typical example of an artist from another genre jumping on the crowded standards-and-ballads bandwagon. When I Fall in Love instead represents an instrumental stylist busting out of a box to find a much more suitable platform for his craft. These tracks are the fruits of an obvious labor of love for everyone from the featured musicians to the arrangers to the engineers. The arrangers, particularly Billy Childs and Gil Goldstein, give Botti's trumpet a broad-brushed orchestral backdrop that allows him to emerge from the swirling strings and bouncy horns with bold strokes of creative improvising. Some tracks are obvious nods to Gil Evans and the lush arrangements of 1970s CTI recordings. Even the guest vocalists, Sting and Paula Cole, let his trumpet sing first before their respective cues on "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" and "What'll I Do." The only blemish here is the obvious attempt at smooth jazz airplay with Sade's "No Ordinary Love." --Mark Ruffin

The cleverness of Fall Out Boy's lyrical content is immediately evident by looking at the song titles on their sophomore disc, From Under the Cork Tree. "A Little Less 'Sixteen Candles,' a Little More 'Touch Me,'" "I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" and "Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year" are but a small taste of the group's acerbic attitude. After FOB's indie debut hit the underground charts, the group's sudden indie-style success made for a fast growth spurt. Their appeal is obvious, from frontman Patrick Stump's Killer-esque pipes (especially evidenced in the disc-closing "XO") to their very melodic teen-angst anthems. While much of the disc operates at usual punk-pop speed, the highlight comes from a slower, emotion-laden cut called "I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth." This song of living in the public while working through private pain is a beautiful, multilayered number that stays with you long after the album is over. --Denise Sheppard

Wasnt expecting much but got a whole lot more.......2007-07-05
Got to say was not expecting much, I liked a few of the tracks off this album but when I bought it I was expecting the usual 'emo' moan moan, I hate life, my girlfriend left me rubbish but this was a whole lot more than that.
Good, well put together music with decent lyrics to match. A good sound production to back up produced a pretty powerful album this realy does represent a good progression for Fall Out Boy and got to say, not much of a fan of so called 'indie' bands who never seem to be off MTV but if they keep producing stuff of this quality I cant realy complain.
Well worth buying.
**ckn awsome!.......2007-05-19
can you get much better? maybe U2, but not many others can compete with FOB. thou i'm more partial to thnks fr the mmrs the song on this album are awsome as well. i really like sugar we're going down, and champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends. they are awsome and really catchy. if you don't like FOB go die!
A Civil Attempt At Making It Big.......2007-04-22
Fall Out Boy consists of the members Joe Trohan, Patrick Stump, and Pete Wentz. Their album 'From Under The Cork Tree' was released in 2005.
1. Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued - 8/10 - A very nice start to the album. The song puts you in a good mood and makes you want to hear more.
2. Of All The Gin Joints In All The World - 7/10 - There was nothing really horrible about this song except it just seemed like an extension to the first track. There's nothing memorable about it.
3. Dance, Dance - 10/10 - The album really takes off from this point. Dance, Dance is a vibrant, colorful song that will get you up and moving.
4. Sugar, We're Going Down - 10/10 - By far, the best track on the album. This is the song that you'll be humming or singing without realizing it.
5. Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner - 9/10 - Another catchy song that will have you dancing.
6. I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) - 8/10 - This song does have a slight taste of summer, but it definitely is not your summer anthem. Some of the parts were a little bland and repetitive, but for the most part it was a pretty song.
7. 7 Minutes In Heaven (Atavan Halen) - 7/10 - I find this song a little boring. There's nothing that special or unique about it except for a small break in the middle of the song.
8. Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year - 7/10 - Another not so memorable song. The beginning starts off great but it slowly goes downhill after that.
9. Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends - 9/10 - There's some irresistable chords in this song that will finally bring out more of the fun in the album.
10. I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me - 6/10 - The title is creative, but nothing else is. Everything about this song makes it long and almost painful to listen to. My least favorite song on the album.
11. A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me" - 7/10 - Nothing too great about this track either. It sounds like most of the previous songs that were forgettable.
12. Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying - 7/10 - The only really great part of this song is the end when all the music is taken away, and there is speaking. It shows what the whole song was about and makes its point nicely.
13. XO - 8/10 - The song starts off not so great, but it ends nicely. All in all, it's a pretty good closing to the album.
The album cover contains lyrics to all of the songs, pictures of the band members, and of course, the credits.
I would recommend listening to the clips of the songs that Amazon provides so you can get a real feel for them.
I am very surprised.......2007-04-05
I must to confess at the very beginning I guessed I had made a bad acquisition because I bought it, cause a couple of songs.
In less than an hour I changed my mind. GUAU!! I guess says everything.
Now I can not stop to play this CD.
Sugar... (for me, one of the best songs)
Sophomore Slump...
I Slept with Someone...
Get Busy Living...
Each of these deserve stop for a while and repeat again and again
The CD that got me FOBSESSED!!.......2007-03-12
I just love this CD, But because of a few skippable tracks, I've only given it 4 stars :] It's GREAT though! When my friend took my iPod home from the night and put the songs from this CD on it, and told me to listen to it, I never stopped thanking him after. xDDD It's just AWESOME, and got me hooked on Fall Out Boy. I downloaded the other two main albums from Limewire, and later on I recently purchased Infinity On High. I also had the HUGE pleasure of being allowed to go to a Fall Out Boy concert!!! I think I was one of the only twelve year old girls right up the front of the mosh pit getting absolutely squished to DEATH, but I tell you, it was the best thing EVER! I happen to be wearing my FOB t-shirt right now, in fact. xD Patrick has a FANTASTIC voice live, and they are such great crowd-pleasers. It was truly AMAZING.
Anyway, onto the ratage of the CD! =3
1) Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued- 6/10. I just don't like this as much as the other songs, and I don't think it makes a good introduction track. :[ However, it's definitely not a track I skip, and the chorus is very catchy (though Patrick doesn't sing it the same live).
2) Of All The Gin Joints In All The World- 9/10. One of my absolute favourite Fall Out Boy songs!! The verses are so fun to sing along to, especially "I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive, Now I only waste it dreaming of you!". It's also awesome live, especially the "oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh"'s at the start, near the end, and at the very end. Love it!
3) Dance, Dance- 8/10. When I first heard it, I absolutely loved it, but now I'm slightly more partial to it, after having heard plenty of other FOB song. "I'm two quarters and a heart down", and the rest of that pre-chorus is so catchy, I find myself singing along to it every single time. I wish they had included the verse that they left out but was displayed in the demo version (We'll leave you kicking and screaming, etc). Vocals in the chorus are great and Patrick can actually pull them off live (which did, admittedly, surprise me). A nice job on this song, definitely.
4) Sugar, We're Goin Down- 9/10. Pretty much anyone who listens to the radio, or MTV, will have heard of this song. I personally think more hype could have been created over some of the other songs in this CD (and some from their other CDs, too) The chorus is my least favourite part of the song, and I don't find it as catchy as the first and second verse. "Is this more than you bargained for yet? Oh, don't mind me, I'm watching you two from the closet, Wishing to be the friction in your jeans" is pure genius in my opinion. The music at the start is very fun to hum to, as a side note xDD Altogether, not my favourite, but definitely very up there.
5) Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner- 10/10. Love it! The quick little drum bit at the beginning, then the quick launch into the vocals is really great, and this song is so energetic, and fun to lipsynch and sing along to! The chorus is impossible to listen to without singing to, and the transition from SWGD to this song is awesome, too. Don't really have any critiscm for the song at all, every bit of it is very listenable, "Wear me like a locket around your throat, I'll weigh you down, I'll watch you choke" is fantastic, especially when it blends with the chorus at the end. This song is GREAT!
6) I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth- 7/10. This one definitely grew on me. When I first heard it, I thought it was a bit dreary, slow, and boring, but when I did some research and found out what the song was about, I listened to it in a whole different light, and found the chorus irresistable to sing along to. Not exactly catchy at first, but think about the range Patrick displays in this song, and then appreciate it more. It's definitely not the sort of song that will stick in your mind the first time round, but listen to it a few times and you will begin to love it. As stated in Dead On Arrival, "The songs you grow to like never stick at first"!
7) 7 Minutes In Heaven- 9/10. Music at the start is fantastic to sing to, "da da da"'s in the middle (ft. Brendon Urie from Panic! At the Disco) just as great. "I keep telling myself, I keep telling myself, I'm not the desperate type" is lovely and fast, and incredibly catchy. Lyrical content in this song is incredibly clever and an upbeat way of describing a serious situation (fighting an addiction). Emphasis on the guitar in the chorus is very effective, as well. All in all, this song is awesome, and I never get tired of it!
8) Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year- 10/10. PURE LOVE!! The lyrics are genius, "The best part of believe is the lie", nobody but Pete Wentz could come up with something so clever! The chorus especially sticks in your mind, and the second verse and refrain, too. Very very clever, I don't know what else to say, it's just great! I could listen to it again and again and again and not get bored of it. =]
9) Champagne for my Real Friends, Real Pain for my Sham Friends- 8/10. The title is great, I just LOVE it. xDD It's awesome. Music at the start is fantastic for leading into the song, "You are a getaway car, Rush of blood to the head" gets you pumped up for sure! This song gets me really excited, it's nice and fast-paced. Great song, though *COULD* be considered a skippable filler track. I would disagree, though, 'cause I love this song. :]
10) I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me- 6/10. Yeah, everyone loves the title, but I'm not so fond of the actual song...I can skip it. =/ Chorus is catchy enough, but I don't sing along with this one that much, it didn't really stand out for me, the only cool part for me is "I found the cure to growing older". Still a good song, just doesn't have something special, at least where vocals are concerned.
11) A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me- 10/10. It really doesn't get much better than this! :] Love this one to BITS. Since the first time I heard it, the insanely sticking chorus was in my mind and I was humming it everywhere I went. Lyrics, though repetitive a bit, are still fantastic, and the overall tune is so catchy. Vocals are nothing special, but such a cool song, I can't see how it's possible to dislike it! One of my faves! :D
12) Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying- 6/10. In my opinion, the chorus lets the verses down, and the screaming bits...just ergh. Sure, Pete might be a good screamer, but I wish he'd just left the otherwise-perfect vocals of this song to Patrick. D: The best bit of this song is "I know this hurts, it was meant to, it was meant to", the rest of the chorus is a bit mediocre, at least I think so anyway. :] The speech at the end of the song is FANTASTIC, though. The lyrics are very well thought-out, and I can't critisize the music at all, either. This song just didn't stick in my mind much at first, which is why I gave it a 6/10.
13) XO- 9/10. The singing in this song is GREAT, if you're listening to it with headphones on, here's a piece of advice; take one of the headphones out (you need to try with both) until you find the one which is playing the pure vocals at the start ("I comb the crowd...I swear, I say"), you will be amazed by the purity of Patrick's voice. The only letdown to this song for me was how much "To the love I left my conscience pressed" was repeated, I sometimes fastfoward through that bit. I sing this song everywhere I go, it's very addictive, the fast-paced verses remind me of a high-speed car chase, and it really puts me on the edge of my seat listening to it! Awesome song.
All in all, I prefer Take This To Your Grave, but From Under The Cork Tree is a fabulous album, though I think many people have a negative view towards it because of the two main singles on the album, SWGD, and Dance, Dance. Those songs definitely don't represent the best of Fall Out Boy, good though they are. :]
If you haven't already bought From Under The Cork Tree, I HIGHLY recommend going to get it now! Apologies for the insanely long review, I got a bit carried away!
Thanks for reading! :]

After flirting with heavy guitar rock ("The Man Who Sold the World") and lighter pop ("Hunky Dory"), Bowie found middle ground on Ziggy Stardust. The creation of the Ziggy Stardust persona would live on well after Bowie shed the alien skin, marking the first rock concept album by a sexually ambiguous, artistically bent musician who confounded critics at every turn. A blend of dramatic strings, swaggering saxophones, jagged guitars, and theatrical arrangements, the album's darker rock numbers like "It Ain't Easy," "Moonage Daydream," "Ziggy Stardust," and the irresistible "Suffragette City," still serve as solid excursions into the future (then and now) of rock. The buoyant "Hang on to Yourself" and the dreamy "Star" offer hints of optimism in Ziggy's bleak world. The dramatic "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" and the image-heavy "Star Man" ("he'd like to come and meet us but thinks he'd blow our minds!") no doubt provided plenty of stage-worthy moments when Ziggy toured in the '70s, but years later they still thrill. Bowie blew our minds! --Lorry Fleming

Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am.......2007-07-07
Now I do like this. But it is not my favorite David Bowie album. Too many so-so songs ("Star"; "Hang Onto Yourself"; "Five Years"); too much campy over-orchestration ("Rock and Roll Suicide"), one total bomb ("It Ain't Easy") - he even recycles the "Sweet Jane" riff on "Starman", which is otherwise very good. Still, it's Ziggy Stardust, man! You know? It's not like there aren't all kinds of excellent songs on this album, because there are a truckload! You know "Moonage Daydream", right? What a guitar solo! And you know "Ziggy Stardust", I assume! The lyrics! The riff! And, again, the guitar solo! "Starman" is pretty good too, though I think Bowie could've written his own riff rather than take one of Lou Reed's. Been spending too much time around Jimmy Page, have you? Continuing on, "Suffragette City" may not be terribly insightful, but it's a Stonesy rocker with a powerful horn section, so I like it. Another two songs I like that you don't often hear too much of are the cathartic "Soul Love" and the groupie-themed rocker "Lady Stardust". Oh yeah, and then there's the concept. The bisexual androgynous alien coming down from space to save everybody's life. It's a bit clunky, but like Tommy I find Ziggy Stardust is more about the music than the concept. And the music's good!
Awesome Bowie.......2007-06-28
This album is still my favorite dating back to 1972.
Bowie was the genius of the 70's.
All serious Bowie fans should add this cd to their collection, this is Bowie at his best, each song could easily be a number 1 hit even today!
Adrian.T.
Ziggy will captivate you!.......2007-06-25
I love David Bowie and could listen to "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" over-and-over. The poetics of Bowie's lyrics and the phenomenal guitar riffs hold this album together and are what makes it a classic, must have album. This is Bowie at his height of fame and truly captures Bowie's glam rock side of the late 1970s. I could not choose a favorite song from this album because, to me, each song builds off of one another like a good concept album should. From the opening of "Five Years" right to the end "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" shows the various levels of Bowie's artistic ability.
This is a must have for any serious collection of Bowie and for anyone interested in good, wholesome rock showcasing one of the best artists of the 1970s.
Trip down memory lane.......2007-06-10
I was in a restaurant when I heard this album being played and it really brought back memories. I used to listen to it as a teenager and I knew I'd enjoy listening to it again as an adult. It didn't disappoint! Classic Bowie!
"Wam, Bam thank you Mam!!".......2007-04-24
Wow, rock n roll can be raw, catchy, dramatic, and quite sophisticated. So what is the need for new bands? Whenever people talk about Bowie they tend to speak in terms of him paving the way for a lot of today's music. Although that is true I don't think any new rock band has come close to this album. It's too painful for some people to look at the 1970's for what it truly was: the golden age of Rock N Roll, an age that younger people like myself missed out on and only live through their C.D. collection. It is much more comforting to call the 1970's the springboard for modern rock and ignore the fact that modern rock is passionless, corporate, crap.
This album is basically the essence of rock n roll. The songs are short, catchy, and upbeat. These are all qualities that most so called "modern rock" bands avoid like the plague although it is what rock music has always truly been about. Ziggy Stardust is from an era when quality was just plain expected in an album. You couldn't release an album with 10 crapped out songs and 1 decent single like today's bands (by the way music downloading and IPODs are not helping this problem).
If you love great rock music (real rock music) please do yourself a favor and buy Ziggy Stardust and give your Track Skip button a long deserved rest.

Not only is The Nightmare Before Christmas one of the best musicals of the past two decades; it may well be Danny Elfman's masterpiece, successfully integrating his main influences (from Cab Calloway to Nino Rota) into a fantastic whole. The first disc of this reissue features the original soundtrack, its songs still teetering between dark humor and poetic flights of fancy; this so-called kids' music is at least as sophisticated and skilled as anything you're likely to hear on Broadway. The second disc includes demo versions of four songs on which Elfman plays and sings everything, and five new covers of some of Nightmare's best-loved songs. Marilyn Manson successfully applies his spooky Weimar-circus style on "This Is Halloween" while Panic! At the Disco's lushly orchestrated take on the same tune is closer to the original. Fiona Apple's poignant "Sally's Song" is enhanced by very nice string charts, and She Wants Revenge does a disco take on "Kidnap the Sandy Claws." Best perhaps is Fall Out Boy's cover of "What's This?" which sounds like an unexpected cross between the Beach Boys and Queen. A highly recommended set. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

His Halloween!!!.......2007-06-20
Well, disc 1 is Danny Elfman's classic soundtrack to the film that is of course great (goes without saying). Disc 2, to mu pleasent surprise was pretty cool as well. Marilyn Manson's cover of "This Is Halloween" is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMO, it's not only the best track on the album, but it is one of the best cover songs ever recorded in the history of history. I was almost certain that he would have messed that song up...but he really does an amzing job. Even if you hate Manson, ..you won't hate this song. As for the other covers, I liked Fiona Apple's cover of "Sally's Song", and I thought the She Wants Revenge cover of "Kidnap The Santy Claws" was a good eightees style presentation, kinda Depeche Mode-eske. The other bands on the disc all did an ok job, but it's really all about the Manson cover when it's all said and done.
DIFFERENT.......2007-03-26
THIS SOUNDTRACK'S PERFECT IF YOU'RE INTO ANIMATED MOVIES AND MUSIC!MANSON DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB ON HIS SONG: THIS IS HALLOWEEN! HIS VOICE HAS SO MANY DIMENSIONS IN THIS SONG.HIS MUSIC IS PERFECT WITH THE TITLE.
It's simply the best!.......2007-02-15
Both versions of "What's this?" are great! Danny Elfman had already conquered my admiration and respect with Batman's and The Corpse Bride's soundtrack, but The Nightmare Before Christmas is my number 1 for a bunch of reasons: the interpretations are awesome and the new versions in the second CD have profoundly delighted me. If you're an Elfman's fan, you won't be disappointed!
best 2-pack i've bought in a while.......2007-02-09
i will admit, i have been and will be a manson fanatic for a number of years. Nightmare before Christmas has also been on a consistent highnote for me even as a little kid when we got on VHS. so when i heard Danny Elfman on the radio talking about this thing a few weeks before it came out, i heard "marilyn manson will be doing a cover of "this is halloween", my heart jumped and i almost veered of the I-15. i bought two copies of it, one for myself and one for a friend who i knew would also appreciate it for the Panic! cover.
i will also admit i bought this cd without any hesitation, and only for that one song, and i must say it hit it right on the money. Marilyn Manson in my mind is the master of taking good, popular songs, and twisting them into something unique and that makes a statement (hearing him sing "boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange?" is rather convienient).
i also enjoyed the rest of the cds with more or less the same appreciation.
my only gripe with this cd is She Wants Revenges version of Kidnap The Sandy Claws. that was something i was looking forward to, and the signers monotone singing does little to honor the song. the background tune hardly resembles the melody it was taken from. in that song there were 3 distinctive voices, with SWR, you got one unchanging voice with no emotion. hell Beastie Boys coulda done a better job on this song.
A review.......2007-01-20
Seeing as I am an impulse buyer as well as a fan of this movie, I wasn't surprised to wake up one morning and find the package for this sitting on my doorstep. I listened to the second disc first and decided that it was OK. After reading some of the other reveiws I came to agree with some but disagree with others. Everyone has been saying that the Manson version of "This Is Halloween" was the best because it was scary and the Panic! version of said song sucked becuase it was too carnical like. If any of you remember the movie, the original song wasn't meant to be scary, but celebratory. I think Panic! captured that feeling best. Fiona Apple's song was beautiful, but I found that She Wants REvenge missed the mark a little. It had a good beat, yes, but it was too monotone for my taste. Fall Out Boy's cover is a kepper and has made it's way to my most played list. The demos are great, thought the demo of Kidnap the Sandy Claws kinda freaks me out when I remember that it's one guy doing three voices.

This Album is just awesome! Plain and simple. Riffs are awesome, solos are insane, and Brian Fair's vocals keep getting better. It's nice to hear a band that grows and stays true to themselves too.
Thrash and terror!.......2007-07-05
I am so glad to see that there are stil thrash bands in circulation. I like all of that norweigian black/deathy stuff...but thrash is my idea of great metal music. And here they are, a modern band doing an old thing with all of the much needed ingreidients to keep it original and personal. Shadows Fall is further proof that thrash is not just another metal trend, it's the timeless form of metal that will always come back to bite you just when you thought it was dead. I recommend this fine album to fans of Slayer, Exodus, and Burst.

This album is amazing. Redemption was the first track that caught my eye and personally I am happy that bought this album. This was one of the great albums that I have heard so far in the past year. It plays no stop in my Ipod. Final Call is my favorite Track. Shadows Fall owns!!!
The Type of Metal That Might Actually Get Air Play???.......2007-06-13
I was introduced to Shadows Fall with The War Within. At the time that I bought the cd I thought metalcore the NWAHM whatever you want to call it, contained a lot of bands that sounded similar. While I didn't think Shadows Fall was completely apart from the rest I did notice some originality in the guitar work and the growls and screams were good while the singing was...tolerable. With the release of The Fall of Ideals by All That Remains, the standard had been set in my mind. To me, that's the best metal cd I've heard in a long time. Threads of Life doesn't reach that level for me but it is a general step up from The War Within. This cd has a lot of thrash influences in it. The guitar work reflects this. To be honest with you the cd sounds like a blend of thrash and hard rock with death metal influences in Failure of the Devout and Dread Uprising. There's a lot more melody and singing in this cd but now (for the most part) it's done pretty well. These changes (in my opinion) finally set Shadows Fall apart from the dying metalcore genre. Also, we see some pretty complex song structures here. The downside of the cd is probably that they too firmly latched on to their new style. This is most apparent in the guitar work. While the guitar work is great it doesn't really stray too much from the general style developed in the first three songs. Standouts for me include; Redemption, Storm Winds, Failure of the Devout, Another Hero Lost, and Forevermore. The direction they went in was great but there's not too much diversity from song to song with the notable exception of Another Hero Lost and Final Call with the major sounding melody in the chorus. Just one last little note, Forevermore is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time and the song structure is amazing from the solo to the extended middle section to the acoustic piece right before the last chorus. Shadows Fall has amazing talent I just wish they would've put as much work as they put into Forevermore into one or two more songs on the cd because that would've covered the gap from 4 stars to 5.

Ok its emo but its actually good........2007-07-01
So much for the 'emo' tag this is a damn good CD.
Powerful music well put together with lyrics that actually mean something. I wasnt too keen on getting this but after the first listen I realised that this was well worth the risk. You always know a good band when the lyrics stick in your mind and you find yourself singing along when you play it again.
If you have not heard Fall Out Boy before or you have but are not sure where to start, this is proably the best place to do so.

I think this is definately their best album! I own all their albums and didn't really care for "From Under the Cork Tree", but this one is amazing! All the songs are upbeat and make you dance. I never have really liked this genre, but I have really enjoyed their music. I would recommend this album as well as their new one "Infinity on High". It's good stuff!

Clay Walker's new album Fall has been a long time coming, but well worth the wait. As he explores collaborations with other artists and producers, he creates a spectacular vibe of country music. In the mix of cool flavors and heartfelt choruses comes such hits as "Before the Next Teardrop Falls, "She Likes It in the Morning," and "Fall."
Customer Reviews:
Clays Latest Is Another Winner.......2007-07-07
Since Clay has been my favorite Country Artist over the past 15 years I was very excited to hear this new release. Although his previous album was a personal disappointment "The Fall" stands as one of his best. In addition to the singles that were released the following tracks were favorites: "Love To Be Your Last", "I Hate Nights Like This" and the remake of "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" which is a duet with the late Freddy Fender. It's a bilingual version and it is always a treat to hear Clay sing in Spanish. "Working Man" another great track has hit song written all over it. Clay has a special vocal quality which adds great emotion to heartfelt songs and boyish charm to humorous lighter fair such as "Mexico". I strongly recommend this CD as well as his previous work. Also don't forget his beautiful Christmas album of a few years ago.
A VOICE RAISED IN DISAGREEMENT.......2007-04-25
If you like overblown cliched traditional country you're gonna love this album. A truism in Nashville is that the biggest stars get first pick of the best songs. The other side of that coin is that second tier artists like Clay Walker get the second rate material that has been picked over and rejected by bigger stars than he. There is nothing here that isn't a pale imitation of the hits and styles of others like George Strait and Alan Jackson, certainly nothing quality enough to go Top 10 in a medium dominated by more popular male vocalists and hotshot newcomers. The vocals are over the top with no restraint, bathing us with the bathos of the sappy "I'm poor but I got love and so I'm rich" and the "there are millions like me" cliches of these songs. "Fore She Was Mama," opens the CD and has been a minor hit, but is essentially an interesting premise that needed more time to become a great song. And it is the best song on the set. The need for a nearly note by note remake of "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" is questionable - especially when you bring aboard the originator, the recently departed Freddy Fender whose passionate vocal just highlights what a pale copycat version Clay has provided us.
I spent most of my listening time on this CD wondering when something original would peak my interest but it (mercifully) ended before that happened. Traditional is not the equivalent of cliched. Perhaps my biggest mistake was listening to Clint Black's latest directly after the Clay Walker which did nothing more than point out how Clint does traditional right and why Clay was never a bigger star.

"Fall" Stands As a Fine Return to Form for Walker.......2007-04-25
Prime Cuts: I'd Love to Your Last, It Ain't Pretty (But It's Beautiful), Working Man
One man's loss is another man's gain. While Alan Jackson has ditched his longtime helmsman Keith Stegall for Alison Krauss to produce his latest dirge-like disappointment of a record " Like Red Like a Rose," Stegall's deft handiwork of crafting the fortuitous Jackson's chart-topping sounds is all here on Clay Walker's "Fall." After 6 albums with the now dysfunctional Giant Records and 1 with RCA Nashville and with each record accelerating towards mediocrity, "Fall" is a career-detour record that galvanizes with the same neo-traditional ear-grabbing enthusiasm that has earmarked Walker's earlier hits such as "What's It to You" and "Live Until I Die." Further, unlike Walker's precious repertoire where he's contend to just interpret other people's songs, this time round this lanky Texan has a hand in co-writing 5 tracks and wrote one by himself, adding a more personal depth to this album.
Call him hopelessly romantic, "Working Man," an unadorned Alan-Jackson-esquire honky tonk romp about a man working hard not for the mighty dollar but his lady's love is definitely ear-candy for Walker's legion of female fans. Continuing to show off his gentleman-like seriousness to love, which has always worked positively for Walker, "I'd Love to Your Last" is a big love ballad that simmers with a soulful warmth without becoming sappy. Also, Walker's masculine self-assuring tenor brings an ethos to the new single "Fall" that is affirming especially when he croons: "Go on and fall apart/Fall into these arms of mine/I'll catch you everytime you fall/Go on and lose it all/every doubt every fear/Every worry every tear/I'm right here/Baby fall your head on my shoulder/Let it fade away." Moving away from romance, the moving inspirational ballad "It Ain't Pretty (But It's Beautiful)" offers perspicuity towards things that are of value and worth, some of which are often overlooked by humans in their busyness and selfishness.
However, levity does have some room in this emotionally hefty album: `Fore She Was Mama," besides having a clumsy title, is a trite (and meaningless) story about Walker discovering his mother's hippie days from a box of old photos. Other than some sporadic interesting lines like "In a string bikini, in Tijuana/Won't admit she smoked marijuana/But I saw Mama, `fore she was Mama," the song is an attempt in silliness. Thus, it comes as no surprise to find this lead single stalling at number 21 on the Billboard country singles chart. Much better is the Kenny Chesney-influenced "Mexico" and the re-cut of "Before the Next Teardrop Falls." As for the latter, it is a duet with Freddy Fender. "Teardrops" also finds Walker trading lines with Fender in Spanish which itself is a delight to hear.
"Fall" stands as one of Walker better efforts especially in the light of his last few CDs. The presence of Stegall and Walker's well chosen material are prime ingredients to the recipe of this disc's success. For those who like their country lean on its backings, but hefty in terms of its lyrical density on romance, altruism and commitment, you can't go wrong falling for this disc.
Great Material!.......2007-04-23
This is one of the best, if not the best offering Clay has made. All of the songs are true to life, expressing feelings and emotions that many can relate to. My favorite is the "It Ain't Pretty (But It's Beautiful". The first time I heard it I cried all the way through. It is a truly memorable song with a great message. All of the tunes balance out the album, you have upbeat and slow ballads. I believe the listener will hear that Clay appears to be in a great place right now, both personally and professionally. This comes across in the music. Great CD and well worth the wait!
Worth the wait .......2007-04-20
Clay's first album of new material in several years delivers the solid country sound that one has come to expect from Clay. The first single "'Fore She Was Mama" received considerable airplay, and seems to hold up well upon repeated listenings. I am surprised that "Mama" topped out on Billboard at around 21, because its appeal in the Sunshine State was considerably stronger than that. If radio stations still maintained their own charts, I would expect that this would have been a top five song on stations throughout the Southeastern and Southwestern parts of the USA, perhaps tanking north of the Mason-Dixon line
The album features a nice mix of slow and uptempo songs. One of the slower songs "It Ain't Pretty (But It's Beautiful)" is a bit maudlin, but for me it's the best song on the album. Another highlight is Clay's recording of "Before The Last Teardrop Falls", a duet with the late Freddy Fender. Freddy's death isn't acknowledged anywhere in the CD booklet, but I'm pretty sure it was his last recording.
The current single "Fall" is receiving substantial airplay. I would not have picked it as a single, but I can see where its lyrica would have a strong appeal to female listeners with its strongly supportive message to the wife (or girlfriend).
"Average Joe" is a song that should resonate with many, and it features legendary pianist Hargis "Pig" Robbins. Paul Franklin plays steel on all tracks, but several fiddlers share the spotlight on the various tracks (Rob Hajacos, Stuart Duncan, Larry Frankin)
Welcome back Clay

This magnificent soundtrack perfectly captures the grandeur of Edward Zwick's 1994 film. It sounds the way a Montana sunset looks: big, wide, far-reaching, and full of color. In fact, the music is so good most viewers were able to overlook Brad Pitt's acting. This is such a powerful soundtrack that sound editors frequently use portions of it as an early trailer score for other films. Composed, conducted and produced by James Horner, Legends makes use of the fabulous London Symphony Orchestra, as well as fiddle and Japanese wood flute that will remind listeners of Horner's other famous works: the soundtracks to Glory and Titanic. --Charles R. The Solitude of the Legends of the Fall .......2007-06-19
I absolutely love James Horner and his works, and I was not at all surprised when I listened to this stunning soundtrack. The soundtrack brings peaceul serenity of the wilderness along with the sudden unpredictability of human character (in this case Tristan's). It won't lull you to sleep so easily, but I am certain that is exactly what Horner wants- he doesn't want a lullaby but a soundtrack to describe the feelings, and the days of the characters who live the music. Like the soundtracks of "Titanic", "Swing Kids", "The New World", and "Troy", the music will take you to another time, and mutes out the sound of traffic, and noise of this busy present day, to bring you near to the heart of the past and it's tumultuous times that seem all more beautiful than what we experience today. For the regular people who are certain this music should only be confined to stuffy elderly people wanting a nap, prepare to be proved wrong as a teenager wrote this. I highly encourage you to if not buy, at least listen to this music.

The greatest soundtrack I've ever heard.......2007-02-17
Have you ever seen a movie before and loved it for no other reason than the soundtrack? I love Legends of the Fall. Not because the storyline is fantastic or because Brad Pitt is dreamy. No, I love the movie because of the music. I actually bought this cassette tape ten years ago in a second hand store. I had never seen the movie but for $.25 I thought, what the hay. It quickly became my favorite cassette and now CD ever. While many movie scores have moved me, nothing has ever been quite like Horner's Legends. The emotion, the gradure of Montana, the fall of the family is beautifully expressed in the music. If I had to be stranded on a desert island for the rest of my life and could only take one CD, this would be it.
Legends of the Fall.......2007-01-04
This is by far the best soundtrack, ever! I have listened to it over and over again, and I have never tired of it. I recommend this to everyone. My whole family (including my teens) love to listen to it. Thanks!
Oh, Please! Forget "Titanic"!!.......2006-11-17
One of the things that bothered me a lot is that "Legends Of The Fall" was not nominated for an Oscar back in 1994-95, and I would have been more than happy if James Horner had won it for this beautiful piece of music, and not for "Titanic" three years later. Not that the latter wasn't touching, but I think that "Legends" has more personality.
Some people might say that Horner was channeling Aaron Copland, but to be honest, I simply don't care. This is his best composition from his 90's output, period. I mean the theme in the first track, as well as the theme for the Ludlow family, are truly masterpieces in their own right; when I heard them in the movie, I shed tears because these compositions fit perfectly with the drama and the beautiful landscapes you see on screen. In spite of the similarity of the track 'Revenge' with Horner's 'Hightland's Execution' from "Patriot Games", the beauty and the power of the aforementioned themes is overwhelming enough to forget that track.
All in all, "Legends Of The Fall" is a far better work than "Titanic", to tell you the truth, and this is one great, great film score by James Horner.
One of the most exquisite scores ever created!!.......2006-11-12
I have never viewed this film, but this score is a true masterpiece.I am a big fan of movie scores and of James Horner.Almost every score he composes is an artwork but THIS is his greatest work to date. With each note,a new mood is felt. One moment you feel contentment, the next moment sorrow. While each track is good the standout among all of them is "The Ludlows".I am not at all prone to crying, but this piece has brought me near tears. The violin solos are especially affecting in this piece. Many reviewers have commented that Horner is dull and repetitive,I beg to differ.I admit that many chords and sometimes whole themes are repeated in his scores. However, nearly every time he varies an insrumentation or note to bring a change to the piece. Also,on each occasion,he usually writes a new theme to accompany a used one.Yes,he tends to be slightly repetitious, but every comoser will repeat themself at some point in time.John Williams has penned many scores that sound the same. It's called having a "style".Writers of novels do the same thing all the time with far inferior results. So don't criticize James Horner.Just enjoy his breathtaking music, beginning with this, his masterpiece.
