This collection is "wonderful". Also, try to see the live show, "Always....Patsy Cline" when it comes to your area. The show is much more than just singing as a "fan" tells the story of her supposed "involvment" with Patsy. Both this CD and the show are "the greatest!"

I looked for awhile to find a colllection that included almost all the songs I remembered from my younger days. This CD pretty well does that. I have heard a lot of imitators over the years, but no one has come very close to her great style and sound.

This is a terrific collection with a wide range of songs from one of the most spectacular voices the music industry has ever heard. Patsy Cline's gorgeous voice and the emotion she put into her songs makes them heartbreaking to listen to, or if an upbeat song, especially fun to listen to. She just can't be topped. I only wish there were a Patsy Cline Christmas album available. I highly recommend this CD to any Patsy Cline or country music fan. Great selection of hit songs!

What a voice........2006-07-30

I just love listening to this old style of music. Patsy Cline has such a pure tone to her voice. I have to remind myself that even though some of these subjects are a little degrading to women it was a different era and it's the lady's voice that I love. I experienced some volume fading and getting louder in few of the songs. But, that's my only complaint.

Everyone should be obliged to have this CD!.......2007-06-11

This original record from 1967, the best selling one in country history,
was released for the first time 4 years after Patsy's tragic death. It
was then remastered in 1988 and now we have this 2003 re-remastered
copy of those 12 worldwide known songs. The quality is so outstanding
that it seems to have Patsy singing it in your living-room right in
front of you. Her voice as well as the music backed up with the Jorda-
naires sounds so perfect and clear that it's unbelievable that these
songs were recorded between 1957 and 1963. Patsy has become an icon
since the day she died in that plane crash. At that time she was at
the peak of her success (after surviving from a terrible car
accident a year earlier) with 9 top ten hits in both the C&W and Top 100 hits
in less than a 24 months period.
She was the first female "cross-over" artist; that means her country
hits also scored on Billboard's POP/Rock charts.
Those who just enjoy beautiful music, should owe this special edition from 2003
of the queen of "country blues". She was the inspiration of artists like Brenda Lee,
Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dottie West, Wanda Jackson etc. etc.

Finally!!.......2007-05-30

I have owned the vinyl LP of this album since I was about 11 (I'm now 40) and I am thrilled to finally find that someone has released a version that is true to the original album as far as the artwork and the way "Walking After Midnight" was done on that album. I have a copy of what was supposed to be her greatest hits album from the early 90's and I've got to tell ya, it left alot to be desired, just from the crappy artwork and the cut of "WAM" they used. Not to downplay that version (all her music is just wonderful), but when you are used to something, you feel sorta cheated after you've spent your money and then get something different with no warning.

All the songs on here are Patsy's most requested. Although I prefer her earlier work to her "hits", this truly showcases her most heartfelt way with ballads.

Unforunately, you're not hearing it the way it was recorded, thanks for digital touching and compressing.

If you want to hear Patsy's music the way it should sound, get yourself a good turntable and look for her vinyl LPs.

Older records don't sound good on compact discs.

I thought I was getting a CD with equal songs by Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Unfortunately, it was mostly Loretta Lynn, which is fine, but not what I thought.

Patsy Cline will always be considered one of this country's best female vocalists. Her distinct sound and style made her songs instant classics. The 12 songs compiled here are her best works, in my opinion. If you want to hear how singing should really be done, add this one to your collection. You won't be disappointed.

I was first intoduced to Ms. Cline by an old girlfriend, Karen. She used to love to sing "Crazy."
Although she could do it serious justice, when I heard Patsy embrace that song, I was blown away!
That's why I bought this CD...I needed more.
"Walking After Midnight" is a classic. You feel like you are there with her as she croons desperately about her guy. "I Fall To Pieces", "She's Got You", "Back In Baby's Arms"... Heck this entire collection is a must have.
Country fan or not, this CD belongs in any music lover's collection.
Karen died a few years ago of a brain tumor, but I can believe she's up in heaven singing "Crazy" with Patsy.

If you would like to hear what the sound of yearning is , then Patsy Cline may give you some idea .

Luckily she had a producer who kept the sound mostly non intrusive , though the sound of the strings can make things a little melodramatic .

It makes me a little sad that country music seems to be taken less seriously and that cliches are applied to it .

The lyrics to some of the songs have a self pitying slant to them , but that is obviously what listeners wanted .
Not all of them are like that on this CD .

People who have never heard Patsy are lucky as they may end up thinking ' how come I never heard of this singer before ' ?

This CD is a bargain , especially with the quality of the material .

Buy and marvel at Patsy's ability to move you .

With all the Greatest Hits compilations Universal/MCA has forked out in the passed 5 years, they have failed to release a collection ( with the exception of the Boxed Set, '91 ) that does real justice to Patsy's magnificent and versitile voice....until now. GOLD compiles most of Patsy's shining moments and stands as the best collection yet by the the country music legend that once said " If you can't sing it with feeling, don't"

This is a great collection of songs at a great price by the all-time best female country singer, Patsy Cline. And another thing this set has going for it, is "Imagine That" appears in true stereo not in mono as in the 4 CD Collection box set and in the Millenium Edition. Patsy Cline Gold contains 32 carefully selected tunes at a great price, so if you're wondering where to start get this one. Trust me, you'll love it.

Yes, this is the ultimate collection--literally! In fact, it is a track for track reproduction of UTV's 2000 release, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION. However, with that compilation now out of print, this 2005 MCA release is the definitive collection by default. Casual fans may still be satisfied with 1988's 12-track GREATEST HITS, but any serious music fan will want this comprehensive 32 track 2-CD set. Although she died tragically at age 30, she has continued to influence everyone from Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton to Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris and most recently LeAnn Rimes. But make no mistake, there was only one Patsy Cline, and songs like "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces" will be country classics for as long as there is country music

Purists may hate me, but..........2007-01-30

these songs sound terrific remixed! Who better to do the remixing then Owen Bradley, who produced the original tracks. There are those who bemoan that the songs have been remixed, but the original versions are available in pristine form elsewhere. These are slight variations on the originals, and the result is a freshening up of the terrific performances. If you love Patsy Cline's music, you'll love this disc!

though this is an old record, but it is still worth listening, esp the title " Crazy" now seems become popular again.

Why change the background?.......2004-10-01

The soundtrack is great, because of Patsy's voice. I don't understand why they had to change the background for the movie- All they had to do was use the original 4-Star material that Patsy recorded. Maybe they weren't able to do so, due to copywrights and such. Whatever the case, even if I like the original backgrounds better, they are an interesting change. My favorite track is "San Antiono Rose." It's always been one of my favorite Patsy songs and it sounds great with an alternate background. I recommend this album to add to your Patsy collection if you are a fan!!

If Only.............2002-07-04

This "Greatest Hits" compilation (blue cover) should be a companion to their "Remembering" album (red cover), which lists Patsy first. This one is another winner in the best of the Nashville Sound tradition. High points for Jim are a moody "Welcome to My World", "Am I Losing You?" and a sadly reflective "Golden Memories and Silver Tears"-which for some reason did NOT make the Billboard charts. Patsy fans will enjoy "Sweet Dreams of You" and her only 2 #1 hits, "I Fall to Pieces" and "She's Got You". The best track is the first: "Have You Ever Been Lonely-Have You Ever Been Blue?" which was electronically created in the studio. It went to #5 on the Billboard charts in the fall of 1981, close to 20 years after their untimely deaths from plane crashes in the early 60s. As has been written before; COULD WE EVER USE THESE TWO TODAY! Jim had 29 Billboard hits after (!) his death and Patsy had 5 after hers. One suspects their careers would remain in full bloom if they were still with us. If only their planes had stayed on the ground on those fateful days...

Honestly? The title is misleading........2000-11-03

Well, I bought this little jewel thinking from the title suggestion that it was all overdubs of Jim & Patsy together. The back label makes no mention that it isn't-it's only when you start delving into the CD that you find out it's not all duet stuff. So, the title is really misleading, but the music itself is great. Problem is, not all Jim Reeves fans are going to be Patsy Cline fans and vice versa and dedicated fans of either one are going to have just about everything on here already. Really, a senseless compilation.

The Country Music Foundation offers 104 songs--more than four hours of music--even though Patsy Cline died at 30 after less than a decade of recording. Given the wavering quality of her later string-laden work, four CDs might be excessive, but this set comprehensively follows Cline from upstart country boomer to pop diva. She could take charge of a song from day one, as the two 1954 radio transcriptions prove. On her vibrant late-1950s work, she moves from honky-tonk and rockabilly to soft ballads in commanding fashion. "Walkin After Midnight," her first hit, features Don Helms's gentle steel guitar while her vocals blend raw power with emotional vulnerability. By 1957, vocal groups had entered into the mix, and in 1961, hits such as "I Fall to Pieces," "She's Got You," and Willie Nelson's "Crazy" brought her pop stardom. --Marc Greilsamer

I'm really happy with this purchase. I enjoy all the CD's in the package and the booklet that came with it. I love Patsy's music and some of the songs I didn't even know that she sang, I wasn't born whine Patsy was alive. Her songs are timeless and never out of style. Her style of singing really draws you into the song and when she sings she's living the words in that song. She really did sing from her heart.

This collection is an excellent portrait of Patsy Cline's career, and contains many live performances as well as her most beloved classics. There are also a number of selections you won't find in any other compilation. The best box set on the greatest country singer to ever live.

A Classic Patsy Cline.......2006-07-16

I just bought a 2 CD Boxed set of Patsy Cline and listening to her is something else. We lost a great singer way too early back in the early 60s during that terrible tragic plane crash. She is definitely a classic woman. I would highly recommend this boxed set to anyone who likes the oldies. I am definitely going to get this one to go with the others that I have of Patsy Cline.

Mandy Triumphs.......2007-05-13

Mandy Barnett made Patsy cline live again. Her voice has a positively uncanny resemblence to the late legend. Tere Myers as Louise Seger provided a very entertaing and informative narrative, but it was Miss Barnett's soaring vocals which made this a truly memorable event. Why this woman isn't a major country music star is a mystery to me! The only fault I have with this CD is that it makes me sad that it's not available on DVD with video.

Homage at its best!.......2002-03-11

I saw Mandy Barnett play Patsy at the Ryman in Nashville and was sure she was lipsyncing. I was truly blown away. She has Patsy down to a "T". Of course anyone who expects the real Patsy will be disappointed because this is just an excellent interpretation of the famous country star. I would recommend this for anyone who saw the play or intends to. It is a wonderful reminder of a real friendship between Loiuse (through her story telling) and one of country musics pioneers.
I also recommend Mandy Barnetts CD's for those who like authentic country. She maintains her own identity without sounding like Patsy.

One of the pioneers of the country pop "Nashville Sound" of the late '50s and early '60s, Patsy Cline's remarkable voice still resonates amongst vocalists today, in pop as well as country. Her earthy yet studied approach as a singer gave such records as '57's "Walkin' after Midnight" and 1961's "Crazy" (penned by Willie Nelson) a unique quality unmatched since her death in a 1963 plane crash. This 24-track retrospective was originally released shortly thereafter and includes all of her classics such as the above tracks as well as "She's Got You," and "Sweet Dreams." Patsy Cline is not your typical twang and twirl country gal. She had the most versatile voice in recorded music history. She could croon a country ballad, turn around and belt out a rockabilly tune, and then swoop a jazz song. In this collection, you get Patsy at her truest self. Where she found her impeccable voice and put it with just the right material. I know so many people that don't like Country Music (which is a shame, because they're missing out!) but have discovered Patsy Cline's music and have been converted. Her records and voice are timeless.

If you want one CD with all the hits and more, this is the one. It's too bad that Patsy Cline set the standard so high, because no one can seem to even get close! Makes a great dinner date background music record, also.!

Setting the standard for those that followed.......2003-10-16

Patsy set the standard for female country singers, with many of those that followed trying (or so it seemed) to be the next Patsy Cline - even today, forty years after her death in a plane crash. All but one of Patsy's classic songs can be found on this collection. Crazy was a top ten pop hit in America and (in 1990) a top twenty hit in Britain. Heartaches was Patsy's first American top forty pop hit. Don Gibson wrote Sweet dreams and had a big country hit with it, but once Patsy recorded it, it became much more popular and will be forever thought of as a Patsy Cline song. She's got you was an American top twenty pop hit and was also Patsy's first British hit, albeit only a minor one I fall to pieces was yet another top twenty pop hit in America. Walking after midnight is the song that began it all for Patsy in the fifties. Poor man's roses, Back in baby's arms and Leaving on your mind are other Patsy classics included here. The only serious omission is Faded love, a cover of a Bob Wills song that, like Sweet dreams, is regarded as a Patsy Cline classic despite being a cover.

Adequate compensation for the omission of Faded love is provided via Patsy's fine interpretations of Your cheating heart (Hank Williams), I love you so much it hurts (Eddy Arnold), Wayward wind (Gogi Grant), South of the border (Gene Autry), True Love (Bing Crosby), San Antonio rose (Bob Wills), You belong to me (Jo Stafford) and many other fine songs.

Prior to 2004, this compilation was arguably the strongest single CD of Patsy's music available despite the omission of Faded love. With the release of Definitive collection in 2004, I now recommend that collection instead. It only contains 22 tracks instead of the 25 here but there are no serious omissions and everything there has been digitally re-mastered.

This is the one to get for your collection. Sheer enjoyment! A great talent captured here to be enjoyed over and over again. If only we could have comparable contemporary talent. The nuisances and song interpretations are subtle, yet outstanding!

If you can only buy one Patsy Cline CD, this is it. All of her biggest hits are here, as well as a few of the minor (but no less important) ones. I've had the cassette and record album versions of this compilation for years and was thrilled to find it on CD. Patsy Cline was the best; this collection shows you why!
