Excellent collection of old-time gospel music with sublime harmonies. This music says "home" to many of my family members, who grew up hearing these songs in church. We still sing them at family reunions. The songs are beautiful to our "hillbilly" ears. These CDs provided a special Christmas gift for my mom, who used to sing many of these songs in a church quartet with her late father in the 1930s. Her voice is still great, and she enjoys singing along with Grampa Jones and the boys. Even if you aren't religious, and even if you didn't like the TV show "Hee Haw," these beautiful gospel songs can carry you away. I'm going to order more of these for family and friends.

the gospel portion of hee haw was always my favorite. good to see the music on the market. Remindful of childhood memories of going to church with our parents (who both passed away in 2000 age 55 and 59).

I remember the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet song-segments on the old Hee Haw show as a chance to hear country Gospel done in a reverent, simple, downhome way complete with Roy Clark's excellent, understated, country, flat-top picking. The harmonies and solo instrumentation were excellent and when I saw this Hee Haw Gospel Quartet CD being released, I thought, Wow! The old song-performances from the show in remastered form! I eagerly awaited my purchase.

Well, it came today, and I popped it in my player and with the first notes from the first song, I was disappointed! I hit my next-track button and more of the same disappointment was there. Folks, what has been done by the producers is to embellish the old performances with extra instrumentation, additional choruses, and reverb. To me, this has all but obliterated the charm and excellent simple performances that I remember from the old show.

If you a have a fondness for these old Hee Haw Gospel Quartet song-performances, rather than buy this CD, purchase the DVDs of the Hee Haw shows and enjoy these songs in the simple and reverent way they were intended to be heard and viewed.

    This is REAL Country Gospel at its BEST. The CD is absolutely fantastic. Song after song brings back fond memories of the Hee Haw television program. The music will lift your spirit and provides comfort for the troubles of the past as well as courage for the challenges of today. The richness and quality of the music was not "mixed" out in the studio. It is just like having Buck, Roy, Grandpa Jones and Kenny sitting on your front porch singing these songs just for you. If you like Country Music, Country Gospel or are a Hee Haw fan this is a MUST HAVE CD. You won't be sorry you made the purchase...I'm not!!!!

    The producers seemed to desire money rather than the genuine. What's an electric guitar doing in the background? Are the singers really the original four? There's little in the music industry that promotes the genuine. I give this CD one star.

    Please note what I'm writing here applies only to Vol 1 of "The best of the Hee Haw Gospel Quarter." I haven't heard Vol 2.

    Some cretin, with the first volume, decided to add electric guitar and piano to all the cuts, and in the process of doing so, destroyed all the authenticity of what began as masterful renditions of traditional church music.

    Once upon a time I owned all the HHGQ albums --seems like there were at least six of them-- on cassette, and when they either wore out or were borrowed and never returned I bought Vol one of "The Best of..." I've seldom, if ever, been so disappointed in a music purchase. Doesn't deserve any stars at all, but Amazon insists on at least one.

    I gave the CD to my sister, who is not a particularly discerning listener, and to be honest, she loves it. But if you think Vol 1 of "The Best of the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet"represents what used to be played on the TV show, you'll be sadly mistaken.

    As a child, I can remember my grandparents watching Hee Haw. I recently lost my grandfather and I decided to buy these CD's to help comfort me. I can't go one day without listening to them! They bring back memories of my childhood and the songs have helped me deal with his death. I loved them soooo much, I bought my mother and grandmother copies too! They love them as well! I hope there will be a Vol 3 & 4!

    I am a diehard HEE HAW fan and I am always inserch of great music rom HEE HAW and I recamend this one to anyone who is a quartet fan. I always did like the HEE HAW Quartet.

      Hi,i am melody edington,My mother ruth sang in kenny price's band when he was at wnop radio station.They sang in the corn huskers jamboree.My mother was in a accident and her voice was damaged.Kenny went on to the hee haw show.I am seeking infro about his family and life.I know birth and death.,that she sang with kenny.Looking for pictures or music with group.His family,I'd love to meet.Like to find any infro for my mom for her wedding anniversary.She sang alot of kitty wells songs.If i could be in contact with his producer.       The Hee Haw Gospel Quartet has recorded what I want to hear. Real, simple, honest gospel. The type of music I grew up hearing my mother sing. Music with comforting meaning to me. It is perfect for when the stress of living a fast-paced life catches up with you. No orchestra, no mechanical sounding background, just four talented men singing songs that they have probably sung all of their lives. Songs that you can tell they love too. This type of music is sadly becoming more and more rare.

      This album was ruined by dubbed-in music in most songs. Simply RUINED. On most songs for example, the music is so loud, the songs can't be heard. Had I known that, I certainly would not have bought it. I don't like it.
