I could listen to he all day..
It's Conway!.......2005-10-28
This is a wonderful CD with a wonderful group of his songs. There was no one as good as him then and won't be again! If you like his music this is a must have to add to your collection!
Hold on / I'm gonna shoot for the heart.......2005-09-06
I ordered this album without much thought- just assumed a CD filled with #1's should be good... and I was trying to get deeper into classic country music and made the assumption that Conway Twitty would be a good place to start.
It has been three weeks, and this CD has not left my car stereo (unless I need to transport it quickly to another stereo). I'm a 21-year-old woman, and am currently OBSESSED with Conway Twitty, a singer who had barely registered on my music radar a mere month ago.
This is an incredible album, spanning many different time periods of Conway's career, and even includes a couple songs with Loretta that are stunningly beautiful. "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone" is even included- a song which predominately features the lovely Loretta.
My favorites are #8 (You've Never Been This Far Before) and #25 (Desperado Love). I love all of the songs, to be truthful-- I CAN NOT STOP singing these songs... they bring me such JOY and PEACE.
I completely recommend this album, to all. I've always been a country fan, but owning this album has thrown me into the thralls of beautiful classic country music- where the heart and the soul was inherent within each syllable of each song.

Classic Country: Great Duets.......2007-01-22
This is one of the best I've heard if you like country & duets... Absolutely wonderful!
Missing Some Major Duets!! .......2005-07-26
These tracks are all excellent but frankly several major country duets are not here!! Where on earth are Kenny Rogers and Dottie West?? Instead we get Rogers with Sheena Easton and the Rogers/Easton combo makes it almost entirely a pop recording and it should not be on this package. Buck Owens & Rose Maddox have a track but where is Buck with his far more famous duet partner Susan Raye? The Merle Haggard - Janie Fricke track should not have been included since she really only just sings harmony on the record. Why aren't Jimmy Wakely & Margaret Whiting who started the male/female star duet craze in 1949 with Slipping Around here or Kitty Wells & Red Foley, the first superstar duet? And where are Ferlin Husky & Jean Shepard, Jack Greene & Jeannie Seely, David Houston & Barbara Mandrell, Bobby Bare & Skeeter Davis, Roy Drusky & Priscilla Mitchell, Don Gibson & Dottie West, Johnny Duncan & Janie Fricke, to name just a few of the famous country duos of yore. Instead we have too many tracks with the same artists here. It's a very good package but it should have been a great and classic one.

Customer Reviews:
No One Tops Conway!!.......2007-03-04
I was more than happy when I played this CD set of Conway. Most of all his songs are there...some of the hard to find ones!!
I wasn't impressed when Conway sang rock....but since I hadn't ever heard him it was a thrill to listen to Conway make his move to country.
From then on there was NO ONE like Conway. I miss him but this set really keeps me company.
Thanks for making the set available.
Mom's man.......2007-01-12
I got this for my mom for Christmas and she flipped. We both love Conway. It reviews his whole career. It even comes with a book about his life.
Stunning Presentation.......2006-09-12
I was actually stunned when I first saw this set. Instead of a clunky box with jewel cases, it arrives in a beautiful book which is just simply stunning. No clunky jewel cases to open or anything, just open the book and pop the CD out. The CDs contain alot of chart topper songs and not much filler material, but what makes this set really exceptional is the inclusion of two previously unreleased songs: The Live version of Why Me Lord, and the song played at his funeral, Sweet Sweet Spirit. Two truely exceptional songs. To include all his best stuff would take more then 4 CDs as he has, like over 50 #1s I believe, so we still lose out on alot of stuff. Mostly his Warner Bros years I believe which are easlily found.
Conway's Best!.......2005-08-08
If you are just a simple admirer of Conway Twitty, this collection is for you because it displays the unbelievable and inspiring talent of the great Conway Twitty. The collection includes songs from the very beginning of Harold Jenkins to the rise of the super star Conway Twitty. There are even songs on this collection that I have never heard and question why these great songs were not released while this legend was alive! I truly miss Conway and the collection includes a remarkable, historical account of his life with wonderful pictures! You have got to have this collection! It is worth every penny!
I Love you Conway and Miss you

Great Collection of classic country!.......2004-10-11
Overall an excellent collection of legendary hits! However, like all Greatest Hits/Best of collections, this boxset is missing some very substantial material. Some of the hits that were not included: We Did But Now You Don't, Georgia Keeps Pulling On My Ring, Don't Cry Joni (w/ daughter Joni), Don't Call Him a Cowboy, Between Blue Eyes and Jeans, I Can't See Me Without You, Desperado Love, Tight Fittin' Jeans (original single version), Lost In the Feeling, Fallin' For You For Years, Ain't She Something Else and Heartache Tonight. My recommendation to fans: buy the boxset, and also the other greatest hits/best of CD's that have these other "essential" hits. Hopefully soon we will see a comprehensive collection that includes every top 10 hit by this amazing artist. But 'til then ....

Conway Twitty.......2007-03-09
Bought as a gift. The recipient was extremely happy, and I found the ordering wonderfully easy.
Country's Finest.......2007-01-08
Before there was Tim and Faith there was the ultimate in country duos--Loretta and Conway. The songs sound as fresh and vital as they did when they were first released. If anything, they are getting better with age. It may be cool to dis the older country stars but if you do, you are missing out on some of the finest Nashville produced.
The Greatest Duo in Country Music........2006-08-24
It is indeed about time to get our hands on this CD.
Please note, Conway & Loretta each have a unique style, but combine both and you shall hear a new flavor that will keep you playing the CD over and over again.
You enjoy the duet so much that you think that they were a couple, but in reality they were only two great close friends.
My only regret is that I wish a boxset is released with the complete recordings of all the duets made by Conway & Loretta.
Thanks & Enjoy,
Nawaf

Traditional Country Fan.......2002-05-25
.... I was not disappointed at all. It is a must buy for the price. It has a good mixture of old and new songs. I grew up listening to Conway and will probably wear this CD out. When I get tired of listening to some of the junk on the radio today, this is the CD I turn to and think how much I miss Conway.
Real Country.......2001-01-12
If you are interested in real country music, this is the CD for you. This my friends is what country music is supposed to sound like, not that crap that they play on the radio now. Conway's voice can send chill bumps up and down your skin. He puts so much emotion in to each and every song that it sounds like he is singing it just for you. So if you like Real country this is the album to buy.
One of the Best REAL! Country Cd's around........2000-04-11
This here is an example of REAL country. This man can sing. This is a great cd. If you love old country or new country...heck if you love any type of music you will LOVE the great work of Conway Twitty. Buy it. It is a great value for such great music.
EXCELLENT.......1999-07-25
THIS IS A WONDERFUL CD. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT
This cd is one of the greatest of all time.......1999-05-30

Customer Reviews:
Conway Twitty At His Best.......2007-02-11
I love this CD. It has all his great songs, from the very beginning, to his last ones, and all the great hits in between. The two songs that made me decide to buy this CD are "Loney Blue Boy" (which was very hard to find) and "That's My Job". Any true Conway fan will literally fall in love with this CD.
Nice overview, but get the box set if you can.......2006-06-01
Stretching from 1968's "Next In Line" to 1986's tame "Desperado Love," Conway Twitty's string of #1 country hits is indeed impressive. Yet his amply annotated and illustrated Gold forgoes 10 (including "Somebody's Needin' Somebody," "The Games That Daddies Play" and a few duets with Loretta Lynn) that spent a single week at the top in order to expand the chronological set's reach, hold it to 40 songs and provide four 1958-60 MGM charters predating his country career.
A set titled Gold inevitably skips his long-unissued Sun sessions recorded under his original name, Harold Jenkins, and obscure Mercury sides done after he became Conway Twitty, somewhat based on Bye Bye Birdie's character Conrad Birdie. The emphasis is hits: partly narrated "Happy Birthday Darlin'," nostalgic "Play, Guitar, Play," a not-too-disco "Slow Hand," three duets with Lynn. So personal is his tone that any woman could imagine he's singing "I Would Love To Lay You Down" just to her in her home. His voice holds its own against "I May Never Get To Heaven"'s grandiose backup. An abdominal aneurysm felled Twitty in 1993, at a young 59, just two years after his final top-10 country hit, the package's finale "I Couldn't See You Leavin'."
Get the four-disc The Conway Twitty Collection (1994) for the most complete picture of his career if you can afford it.
A worthy collection.......2006-05-30
This Conway Collection is one of the few out there with all original recordings. For some reason Conway (and others) had a habit of re-recording songs 3 or 4 times a decade only to be released on compilation albums. This one, however, contains 40 original recordings, with great sound. While I'm not a fan of his later stuff (the late-'70's onward), the first Cd of this 2-CD collection contains some of the finest country gold ever to hit the air. Such hits as "Linda On My MInd", "15 Years Ago", and "Next in Line" make this first Cd a favorite in my CD rotation. The 2d CD however, contains a lot of his later stuff that lacks the soul and sincerity that made Conway a Country legend. However, if you're a fan of the Pop Country sound, you'll enjoy this 2d CD as well. For the true Conway Twitty fan, this Cd should be on the top of your list.
"The King Of Country Soul ".......2006-03-20
Many statements have been made about the legendary Conway Twitty.

his unique way of being mystic with words paralyzes the listener
to long for more! Move over, listen to pure sounds of depth that no singer of our time has matched. He is and remains a master of

You will not
be disappointed. Here is a lifetime and beyond of great stuff
for now and for the future. Thanks Conway. We miss you! I love
George Jones, Jim Reeves, Charlie Pride, and all the greats. But Conway is in a field of highest quality......all alone. Reach the peek........buy Conway.....be a first-class listener. Enjoy!

Old time.......2007-01-09
I love the CD it brings me back to Idaho listening to Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. I wish country music was like that again.
Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn's 20 Gr. Hits.......2003-01-21
This is the best Conway & Loretta collection currently available.
Nearly all of their classic dutes are here .This albums combines the sultry voice of Conway & the angelic touch of Loretta .Unique talent in their own right , when their voices blend its something that only God could have made .I hope one day MCA will have a box set containing all of their hits plus some of there lesser known hits such as "Let me Be There" & "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" .Until they do lets us just hold on to this fine sampling of Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn talent .
wonderful.......1999-10-01
My Mom & Dad had this vinyl album (Lead Me On) when I was a kid and I used to listen to it all of the time. They don't have it anymore but I have never forgotten it!
Conway and Loretta still rule country music duets........1999-07-30
For a decade,Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn teamed up for some of the finest duets ever recorded in country music. This CD has a lot of their hits, from the early After The Fire Is Gone to the much later You Know Just What I'd Do and a lot of good stuff in between. Cheatin' songs, funny songs, patriotic songs, they're all here to enjoy. The singers' respect and affection for each other propel their songs into another level not often seen today. This CD doesn't include all of their good stuff but it has far more than any other available today and it's well worth buying.
one of the best.......1999-05-29

beware: CD has 10 songs; cassette had 15!.......2004-03-20
this 1990 CD re-release of Conway's PLATINUM 1978 album is missing some performances: five are missing. "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "There's a Honky Tonk Angel" {#1 hits in 1972 and 1974 respectively} should have been added to this re-issue but they weren't since they were on the original release on vinyl in 1978. the three other missing songs are his 1968 #5 hit "The Image of Me" and two of his 1976 re-recordings of his old pop hits "Lonely Blue Boy" and "Danny Boy". Even without the five songs, this 10-song collection is still a good sampling of Conway's classics from the '70s...his signature hits are here: "Hello Darlin"; "You've Never Been This Far Before"; "Linda On My Mind"; and his 1976 re-recording of "It's Only Make Believe" in which some have said is BETTER than the 1958 original! i like both versions. if you don't mind that the five songs i mentioned were cut off the CD re-issue, GET THIS! however, older fans like myself who have the vinyl and turntables will probably pass this CD by since it leaves off material.
I love it........1999-07-13
I listen to this cd all the time. My first and only Conway cd.Great versions of Hello Darlin', It's Only Make Believe, and Play,Guitar Play. Conway had an awesome pair of lungs, and this cd seems to capture his voice at its best. Highly recommended. END

LOOKING BACK / BEST OF THE MGM YEARS/CONWAY TWITTY.......2003-03-18
WOW! WHAT A SURPISE, HE REALLY WILL SURPISE YOU ALL ON HOW MUCH HE HAS COME ALONG SINCE THIS ALBUM, BUT IT WON'T BE A MISTAKE TO GET, HE ROCKS! I ONLY WISH THE SONG,"A MILLION TEARDROPS" WERE ON IT.TRULY ONE TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION, SOME OF THESE SONGS WERE NEVER RELEASED THAT I KNOW OF. HE REALLY RIPS IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS. I AM SO THANKFUL WE HAVE HIS MUSIC TO LISTEN TO. I JUST LOVE HIS SINGING& THIS ONE IS REALLY,REALLY ONE THAT SHOWS HOW HARD HE WORKED TO BE THE BEST AT WHAT HE DID& HE WAS. I LISTEN TO HIM EVERYDAY & EVERY NIGHT, AS LOUD AS I CAN. BUT YOU GOTTA GET THIS ONE FOR SURE!
Conway Twitty - Rock N Roller.......2003-02-09
We finally have an affordable Conway Twitty CD with most of his rock and roll hits. For those who know Conway as a country artist, this may not be for you. The only problem I have with this collection is the ommission of one of his greatest rock and roll songs - A Million Teardrops. It's still a must pick-up for lovers of '50's rockabilly.

join the party everybody.......2004-03-16
this 1981 album {re-issued on CD in 1990} is an under-rated album but it contained 2 Top-10 hits. The reason it may be under-rated is because the title track wasn't a single...whatever the reason, this 10 song duet album is a classic. Rafe VanHoy wrote the title track, a song about a couple discovering that they're finally alone after a party: "Two's a Party, three's a crowd, but we can still get down! if we don't wanna get loud we can celebrate the night away and toast the morning light; two is all it takes to make a party last all night". The hits were "I Still Believe in Waltzes" and the geography lesson in song "Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me" {..."our love is hotter than the flames that swept Chicago, deeper than the Gulf of Mexico; sweeter than the sugar cane way down in Louisiana...here with you is where i want to be i'm just Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me"...}. "The State of Our Union" and "If I Ever Had To Say Goodbye To You" are also great. "I'd Rather Have What We Had", a Bobby Braddock song, just might hold the record as the most recorded song that hasn't been a hit single by anyone. George Jones recorded the song in 1983; John Conlee recorded the song in 1981. Conway and Loretta's version of the song is track 4. the novelty of the album is "Silent Partner" and not "Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me", despite what your ears might tell you. While the latter is up-tempo, "Silent Partner" has more silly lyrics than the other. Loretta coos "let me be your Silent Partner, undercover...secret style". The album cover is a bit of a shock: Conway has his hands in a fist, his fingers aren't on Loretta. this may have been his idea or MCA's in an effort to down-play the on-going perverted rumors that they were secret lovers...
GREAT DUET, GREATEST HITS.......2001-07-25
CONWAY TWITTY HAD PASSED AWAY. I KNEW ABOUT HIM WHEN I LISTENED TO HIS FIRST HIT LONELY BLUE BOY IN THE RADIO. HE RECORDED IT WHEN I WAS NOT BORN YET BUT I LISTENED HIM AGAIN IN 1976 WHEN HE RECORDED DON'T CRY JONI. THIS IS A GREATEST ALBUM. JOINING HIS VOICE WITH LORETTA LYNN MADE THIS RECORDING A GREAT BEST SELLER IN THE 1980'S. I ONCE OWNED THE ORIGINAL L.P. AND I'M SO PROUD TO OBTAIN IT AGAIN ON CD. THE STAR OF THIS ALBUM IS THE SOUND LOVIN' WHAT YOUR LOVIN' DOES TO ME. I SPECIALLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO AL COUNTRY MUSIC FANS. A GREAT TREASURE FOR YOUR COLLECTION. LORETTA LYNN IS FAMOUS FOR SINGING THE MAIN THEME OF THE MOVIE COAL MINE'S DAUGHTER, AND JOINING TWITTY WITH HER VOICE WHAT A GREAT IDEA. COUNTRY FANS BUY THIS ALBUM INMEDIATELY, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
Great Music.......1999-11-04
"The State of Our Union" is the best song on here. But all the songs are for lovers to listen to. I Have the Album when it first came out. This Album is the one I remeber most of.Any of their music has never failed my listening pleasure. So get it. I will get the CD.
